Default alternator ills

Having watched my alternator voltage output drop (over time) closer to 12 volts under load, I checked the options via the postings. I opted to go the parts replacement route as the least expensive option. The voltage regulator and brushes are an integrated unit and are easily accessible in the back of the stock alternator. The regulator/brushes cost ~$60.0 as a Bosch part or $9.99 as a wai-wetherill part. I replaced the two parts, and as usual, remounting the alternator was the biggest pain in the job. Yes, I used the wai-wetherill part and no load is just over 14 volts and full load is just over 13.5 volts. Very cheap fix for what ailed the alternator. With the modest miles that I apply, I expect this to last a long time. If I was planning another cross-country, I would would carry a spare VR-brush assembly in the glove box.

Yes, I'd be very interested in some details as well since my voltage seems to be down a bit lately.

I have posted this link before, I think I found it here, actually. It's a neat trick that mods a stock vreg for a little more juice:

I would not do this to a tired old regulator/brush assembly but an extra .5 volt would b e nice, and this is less fussy than an adjustable regulator.
