The pressure / temp at the end of the exhaust is still more than good enough to support a turbo.

What's the advantage of putting it at the end instead of right after the collectors?

Sound like a lot of pipes for nothing.

It's easier said than done. The reason you don't see more people putting turbo's on their manifolds is because there is not much room there. It can be done. It has been done. Search the forums and you will find many threads and alot of arguments relating to it. There is a gentleman who no longer posts here that has built a few twin turbo 928's. You can find him on Pelican as well as another guy who is working the bugs out of a mid mount setup. I have a single turbo 928 16v car that I am working the bugs out of. Turbo 928's of various styles are out there, you just have to look. There hasn't, until very recently, been a commercial system offered for the 928. They have mostly been one of a kind systems with varying degrees of success. Kind of grassroots.

There is a midmount system on an S-4 in Bogota, Columbia. The builder's name is Hector and he did a great job. He fab'ed up his own headers into a Y pipe and then into the turbo. He is running a stand alone engine management system ( Haltech ) and methanol injection. The system is A/A intercooled and running 12 PSI.

There is a guy in FL running 12 PSI intercooled on a 4.7L 16v engine. He put down about 450 rwhp on the last dyno. That is on an engine that was built for boost. That car is a monster. It's currently dissasembled for paint and will probably be at the Sebring get together.

There is/was another twin 4.7L in FL. That car was recently totaled in a wreck. That system was running about 6 PSI non intercooled.

There was a guy in S. FL who built three different turbo 928's of various styles but he has now moved on to other things and has sold all of his 928 stuff.

PacNW guys have been tinkering around with the rear mount system for a few years now. They seem to have gotten past the development stage now. They have a few cars on the road from what I read.

The return pipe from the turbo to the engine can act like an inter-cooler with a rear mounted turbo.
