You probably should order a new base as well as cover.

Cover: 928 511 143 02
Base ("cup"): 928 511 173 02

is there a barrel end on the end of the cable? if its just a bunch of sheared off ends then you also need a cable

That #12/13/14/15 combination broke on my 86.5 928 back in the day. Common point of failure?

Wasn't there someone who made a metal aftermarket replacement cover/cup??

Good news that cable is attached to lever as you avoid bigger job of installing new release cable.

You just need new backplate and cover which are cheap. The handle just clips onto post in backplate and cover clips over using two plastic flanges.

Note that pin 16 holds the cable 17 to lever 15.

My base broke as well, as it took quite a big pull to release the catch. First I verified it wasnt an issue with the cable in its tube (moved freely), so then I softened the spring at the catch in front. Then I repaired the plastic parts with thin ply and epoxy or super glue, and re-assembled. No issues now for a few years...

What holds 15 to 13 number 14 because on mine theirs a raised plastic post were i think 15 attaches to 13 and then a screw or something to go through post to secure it.

You need to remove the whole assy from the car, and work out how it fits together, especially when assembling it with the cable attached to the lever. Took me a few goes before I understood how it fits and works. Its so easy (NOT) that now I cant remember how it works.

It is common (I've done it more than once) that in trying to remove the cover 15, tabs are broken off and it will no longer lock on. It's hard to see how it comes apart once it is assembled. So, yank, crack is common. As jp said, study it after you get the new parts.
