Be cautious of planning on Glendora Mtn. Road--They seem to close it at whim. We have gone up there for photo shoots only to find the gate closed. Angelous Crest is a better idea.

The Rim Of World was a fun drive ...and as mentioned it ended on major freeways with good access to pick up the 210 to connect to the north 5 , not far from the 15 etc.

We've heard several reports about the gate being closed more and more lately, just a bit beyond the bridge.

----

Because of brush fires this week, the loop around Upper Big Tujunga Canyon Road between Angeles Crest and Angeles Forest highways has been closed or has limited access. There may be continuing access issues on Angeles Forest as more fire equipment is staged at the top of Lower Big Tujunga Canyon road near Angeles Forest Highway.

The loop around Angeles Crest, Upper Big Tujunga Canyon, and Angeles Forest is not looking like the best route unless the fires are brought under control before the end of the week.

Right - not to mention the current freeway closure on the access road (210) to Angeles Crest would also cause a bit of a traffic jam right there before the start of the drive. Too bad, Bob, I was secretly cheering for this route since it is literally in our backyards... Maybe it will be open by the weekend as the fires seem to be burning away from there, but right now it's a mess. Getting to work today was a huge hassle.

The way things are progressing, there's little chance my car will make it to the fest under its own power, so I'm most likely out for the Sunday drive anyway.

If it's just the freeway access, that's not that big an issue. Rumor is that there really are other ways to get places besides the freeway. At least the local part. From my house (and from Chris' place) it's an extra 5 mins if we go surface streets. Big deal is how much of the route might be limited access. More later in the week as the situation matures I guess.

Ok, folks, time for a final consensus vote. Unless additional areas of SoCal start burning, there are three things to decide: Route, timing, and start-up place.

Route: Angeles Crest or a return to Rim of the World (ROTW II)

Timing: my sense is Sunday morning is the preferred time. If everyone is cool with that, what's everyone's preferred start time? I'm cool with anything between 7 and 9AM.

Starting place: Either the median out in front of 928Intl, or at the Fullerton Marriott, whichever is easier for people. (Or at a staging area near the start of either run, as appropriate)

Get yer votes in and I will plan accordingly!

My vote is ROTW, with a start time that gets me on the road ideally around ~2pm after lunch. IMHO starting from the hotel gives the out-of-towners an extra ~20 min to get it together, especially if it's an early start.

In order of preference:

1. Angeles Crest on Saturday
2. ROTW on Saturday
3. Angeles Crest on Sunday
4. ROTW on Sunday

All the above choices have to do with whether I would have to stay over on Saturday night, I had not been planning on it. And a friend might come who probably wouldn't want to stay over night. I might be able to make Angeles Crest on Sunday without an overnight stay if the leave time was late enough (forget 7am!) to drive down from SB, but with ROTW it simply wouldn't be doable on Sunday morning. Just too far for a 2nd trip.

Rob-

Sorry for the delay in responding. Ok, here's the plan- the consensus seems to be that hitting Rim Of The World (clockwise) on Sunday morning tickles the most fancies. And Mark pointed out to me that there will be plenty of SF regulars who may not have seen this thread that will just assume that the run starts at 928Intl, so we will line up at 928Intl at 9AM on Sunday. First stop is the corner of East 40th and N. Waterman in San Bernardino, there's a park on the NE corner at which we can regroup before heading up Hwy 18. I will provide printed route maps both Saturday and Sunday morning. RE: lunch, Pancho Villa's on Juniper Ave in Fontana is waiting for a head count from me so they know roughly how many are coming. They do a Sunday buffet for $17 or one can a la carte it.

More route details tomorrow!

Sounds like a good plan. When you say ROTW clockwise, is that the opposite direction compared to '05, or am I mis-remembering the route?

Dave-

Bill (post #10) recalls it being ccw, so I figured we could go cw just for the heck of it. I'll draft up routes both directions and let everyone choose.

Sup Dave! When we did the 05 run, it was clockwise. We ran up the mountain from the west and came down in the east.

Remember, Cops LOVE to sit part way up these roads just waiting for law breakers! If you guys remember in 05, I led the drive on the ROTW and flew right into the sights of a of a sitting police unit with about 50 928's behind me. He must have been reaching for another donut cause my V1 didn't respond and he never chased us. After we stopped at the viewpoint, we headed down the mountain and there was another unit parked just ready to pounce.

I strongly suggest that whom ever is riding point, have their V1 set to sensitive and pay attention! These are VERY fun roads with a lot of room to pump some speed into and in the turns, but be smart and don't get too risky!

Have fun!
