puff of smoke
I need your Help...any suggestions are welcomed.!
I just put the finishing touches on the car and noticed that after running hard, or, after cruising at 70 mph and then decelerating everything seems ok but when I start to accelerate I get a puff of smoke out the tail pipe. (not black and not pure white) this doesn't happen all the time and my buddy behind me didn't notice but one event over 80 miles of driving today..
the car is a 93 gts with raptor sc (centrifugal) intercooled, and sharktuned with only 13 knocks over 20 minutes of driving after sharktuning..
the coolant is not low and no milky oil what do you think.. probable head gasket?
any ideas would be a great help.
thanks in advance

If your headgasket goes, you'll get a rainbow film on top of your coolant...and generally water in your oil, too. Check there.
Broadly speaking black smoke is fuel; blue smoke is oil; white smoke is water/coolant. Fuel tends to be the least costly issue to remedy.

coolant looks good with no film and the oil looks good....should I do a leak down test and start checking around along with the chem test mentioned on the coolant in previous posts as starters?
thanks

For starters, just take a look at each spark plug. Post the pics here if you like. There's a series of things that you can read on spark plugs, such as proper fuel mixture, oil contamination, innefficient water radiator, spark timing (different from cam timing, mind you), detonation, etc.
The *best* way to read spark plugs is with new plugs...but even with old spark plugs you can often get a good reading by looking at them as soon as you shut off the motor after you've made a full acceleration run up a short hill.
Make your hill climb, then park and shut off the motor. No idling or slow driving. Let the motor cool...pull the plugs and do not wipe them off or disturb them in any manner.
Photo and label each plug with its cylinder number as you remove them. You want to closely photograph the open gap of the ground electrode, the top of the ground electrode, and a side shot of the threads with the main ground electrode visible in each pic.

GTS engines use more, IE burn more oil than the S4, its a known condition, possibly rings and or the valve guides. So whats your oil consumption looking like about 1 qt in every 500 miles??

Like Stan says this is fairly common for the GTS. '93 was the first year of the forged pistons and tollerances were pretty liberal. It's not uncommon to see what you describe.

I can say that I personally would not worry about it.
What you are seeing here is caused by alittle more blowby created by the forced induction (normal), this pushes alittle bit more oil vapers into the base of the intake manifold where they puddle and then get sucked in once you start going again presenting a small puff of blue.
You can do a leakdown test if you are really worried but overall, dont worry about it, it is normal esp for a GTS.

How big was the puff of smoke? Watch other cars as they floor the accelerator and you will see puffs of smoke from them too. Even brand new Toyotas do it. When you floor the pedal, the engine computer switches to the WOT map and momentarily the A/F ratio goes super rich. It's one way I can tell someone in another car is stomping on it.
