Default Time capsule 928 in Nov. 08 Excellence

This was first posted under another heading "Blue 82 where are you?" , IIRC, by someone else but the thread was shut down so I thought to post it again.

In the Nov. 08 Excellence magazine there is a very nice write up about the blue 1982 928S that was parked for over 20 years and only showed 3,487 miles when first spotted by a rennlister who went to look at a vintage motorcycle the same owner also had. This was bantered about in another thread a while ago.

Just wanted to make mention since in the past there have been many 928ers who felt snubbed by major Porsche magazines to include Excellence. Many wanted more articles about 928s and Excellence came through for us again.

Check it out,
Constantine

A bookstore or newsstand that sells lots of magazines (of the non-naughty type.)

Didn't know Kermit was in there too! Chuck Z you were holding out on us!!!

Blue82 is doing VERY WELL! Did a photo shoot with her and the Race car and a neighbors Gilles Aerobatic airplane today when our neighborhood fly in got all wrapped up. Will post the results when I see them. Looking at the pics on the little screen showed what looks to be some VERY nice shots!

Hope to win a PCA Concours this coming weekend with Blue82. She is now sporting 3550 miles. It was 3537 upon arrival at my house 4 or 5 weeks ago...

Haven't seen the article in the actual magazine yet, but I have a faxed copy. Only a couple factual errors which is slightly disappointing since the author had me proof-read it first and I pointed out all of the errors at that time. Some of them still made it to the article though.

~The tappets in my S4 DO NOT rattle if the car has been sitting for a week upon restart. They did rattle for about a minute after I woke the car up after being dormant for 1.5 years.

~I DID NOT drive the car home 25 miles from my mechanic with a set of 993 tires and wheels installed. I flatbedded it home. The only time I actually drove the car more than around the block was for the excellence photo shoot.

Oh well, I'm not complaining about my 15 minutes. Now the printing company is calling me offering a $250 copy of the article in some sort of display dealio. James if you want one let me know.

All in all what a great experience. Here is a link to the bike that got me going down this path with Blue82. This bike lived 1 foot away from Blue82 for 24 years and is the reason I was in the guy's garage and the reason James in Texas is polishing Blue82 today. So yes Randy V this silly Honda has something to do with 928's!

Oil has something like a million year half life so turning into tar is not an issue, and oil does not absorb water like brake fluid so condensation is not a problem. I would change it just because its cheap insurance.

In this case, had I just added fresh fuel and a battery, the engine would of fired right up and ran fine. I replaced all the fluids/belts/water pump/etc., though as a precaution. The 1980's vintage oil that was drained out looked great and would of worked just fine I'm sure. It sure as heck was not tar.

If you have a spare 2 hours, read all about it here:

Looking good James. How was the paint/body behind the front plate? Texas does not require one?

Hell don't you have drive-up liquor stores? You don't need no stinking (front) plate!
