Thumbs up Well it's Time! (cross-country trip - rv)

Recall my old post about driving the 928 across country from Pittsburgh to Bozeman, Montana (linky: https://rennlist.com/forums/showthre...=445196&page=2), the vote as 82 in favor and 2 against (I was one of the "no" votes, just for the hell of it ; not sure who the other one was).
Anyway, the time is finally here - next weekend I fly to Pittsburgh, and the journey will begin. Two weeks ago, I drove the Shelby accross. What a blast that was. I averaged 83 mph (per my onboard computer). Once you're past Chicago, you can fly Also, this country of ours is spectactularly beautiful. I did the north to south drive before, and the cross country drive thru the south, but this was my first time crossing the north.

Now, as I indicated in the earlier post, there is some concern about driving a 22 year old car 1850 miles. I did the whole top end r&r, new tires, new shocks, springs, water pump and timing belt, etc etc, so the car really should be good to go. Still, I'd like to know who is along the route, just in case (don't want to jinx things either).

The route will be (all references to interstates only - this ain't no stinkin' site seeing trip): 76 north from pitt to 80 west to cleveland, where it also turns into 90 west, clean thru to chicago. From chic, 90 north/west to wisconsin, then turn off to 94 west and head to minneapolis/st paul. Stay on 94 west thru minn and north dakota and into montana at Billings, then I'm just about home - another 2 hours to Bozeman on the 90 west from Bozeman.

So (unlike others who may have wrecked it for us legit guys, for instance, a person whose initials are "Whitefox", I don't need money or a place to stay), I just need to know who's out there with a wrench or a recommendation if I get in a pinch. I'm a former 928 OC "den mother", so I have that whole list, but who else is out there along the way?

I have 2 days only for the drive (that's all it took in the Mustang).
Thanks All. I'll try to post my exploits from along the way.

Ed...damn...you ruined my whole response to you.....of course, you didn't mention anything about not needin' any drugs.

By the way, I was reading your post in confusion for the first paragraph, saying to myself....why is he flyin' INTO Pittsburgh, when he lives there? Then I saw your new location. Congrats on the move...when did that happen?

Oh, and you can stay here if you need a place to crash, if your trip happens to loop the wrong direction by mistake!

Edit: nuts, Porken beat me to it! lol.

I gotta do more lines so I'm quicker on the draw.

Ed, when do you get back into Pgh? when do you leave? Any chance we can do a fun run on saturday and send you off proper! Let me know soon so I can send out an e-mail to the 928 crew. Maybe even make your departure part of the fun run, sounds good to me.

Have fun and be safe. Back in 1987, I drove from Phila., Pa to San Francisco, CA in 61 hrs. Non-stop except for gas and oil in a 1977 Toyota celica GT. Great memories from that ride. Oh, that included pulling a 6' Uhaul trailer also.

Hi Mike - unfortunatly my Saturday is fairly well filled up with a million tasks, and then the fun run for me begins early sunday morning - not sure we can rustle the troops for a 6 am caravan
How's the car running? You need to get it up to Erie and do a fun run with Kyle before he does something crazy like sell his shark

Ed,

You won't have ANY problems w/ that trip in a 928! These bad boys are like energizer bunnies. They just keep going and going! I think the old ones might even be better because they are more simple.

Thanks for the kudos folks! The company is Zoot Enterprises, and they provide services to the financial services industry. There is one rennlister in town here that I know of, a young guy at the university, but I hven't had chance to look him up yet. He has a 951. I understand there are 2 928 OC guys nearby (relatively speaking) in Billings and Butte. I guess we won't be having those nice tech sessions like we used to have with the gang in WPA
Anyway, it'll be fun to see the reactions of the locals here to my shark. My boss has a 930 RUF, so I'm looking forward to doing some cruising with him or his son (they have a number of very cool cars)....

I'm sort of jealous. Montana has to have some of the best driving roads in the country, I would think.

Right?
