Ed--

Where will you land on the left coast?

Also--

Resurrect a copy of the roadhelp list, which includes contact info for owners along the way who are in a position to help you if something does need help. Sometimes it's as easy as a few tools you aren't carrying, all the way to an open garage bay here in Glendale with tools/manuals and maybe soon a lift, plus me and the big brass hammer of course when I'm home.

Without a doubt, drive it! I have bought 928's in Houston, SF, Washinton DC and New Jersey and drove them all back home to Portland, Oregon. Every trip was a blast and well worth it.

trucking stories.......I've heard them all.

Kind of like fishing stories......

Truck limit in Montana is 65mph. No tolerance.

Even when Montana removed all speed limits, the trucks were still at 65 (even though it wasn't posted). Troopers were handing out excessive use of resources tickets right and left.....

remember the story of the factory Mercedes guys coming over and doing 120+ testing (with a dozen cars at a time) right after the limits were removed.....?

that didn't last long.......

Texas still has the highest limits......80 mph in rural west Texas.

Drive it.

And give yourself a few days. You want to be able to take whatever side trips catch your fancy on the way.

I've got a lot of high-speed non-stops under my belt, but the trips I really remember were the "moseys." (I usually mosey at high speed between stops.)

This goes without saying but, you should really take a drive in your car, you`ll find that it will operate better when you get to where your going and you will have a nother good roadtrip under your belt

stop by Denver on your way out , Im sure we can wrassle a few 928ers for a meal

Man, you guys are the best! 32 - 0 in favor of driving!
Dr. Bob, I'm not going all the way to the left coast. Heading as far as Montana (which seems to be the opposite of left to me). Stan, I'd love to swing by Denver, but that would be too far off the path. I like Will's idea of moseying out - Mt Rushmore is dead on the path, so that would be a "must see". I'll fix the odo gear when I get there (and get my correct lift bars too - I assume cheaper shipping to MT?)
I need to find that list. I know the 928OC has the "den mother" list (I'm the current WPA den mother). Is that the same list referred to?

I would have driven my 928 from California to North Carolina BUT I had two kids under 4 and a dog. Way too long and complicated.

If you have light baggage and your car has been reliable in recent months/years, you are looking at a great opportunity. You could also save a ton of money as well.

Drive it! Drove both of mine non-stop from Southern Florida to Maryland when I bought them, great drive.

I did Jacksonville to Northern California last year in my new to me 85. Awesome experience, wouldn't dream of doing anything else if I faced the choice again.

Drive it!

I bought my S4 in NJ. Flew out from Seattle to pick it up. Did some cursory prep to it, drove it 4000 miles home to Seattle via the southern route. A once in a lifetime trip. Clicked off 600-1000 mile days no problem.

As was mentioned, AAA long distance tow service. List of rennlisters along the way. Laptop to keep connected (most truck stops and hotels have free wireless internet).

Ipod type device, cell phone, and radar detector - you're all set!
