I recently polished a red 93 that had a single stage paint, as far as I know its original. Anyone cross reference this against the 968's, 964's to see if they had single or two stage?

I've been using Rejex for the past couple of years I sometimes get frustrated; however, a couple of times that I've had the car professionally detailed, it didn't appear any better then when I did it with Rejex I was very disappointed, so I save my $$$$ and just use Rejex every couple of months. Works good on the wheels also I know that there is a shine there someplace, and maybe someone will recommend a local mobile detailer (SFV) who can bring out the shine

FWIW, my '90 GT Black is definitely single stage, no clear. I have the orange-turned-black Griots polish pad to prove it.

The early 1990s is when the guards red, black, and other non metallic colors came with clear coat. Before that was single stage for solid colors.

My '89 is single-stage.

From memory Guards Red got clear at the factory from '90 onwards when Porsche changed paints for environmental reasons.

This thread is very timely - my car needs a wash and I was contemplating the same issue.

I've decided to claybar, couple of stages of polish on the rotary to correct swirls, then use a polymer sealant - I'll wax a few days after the sealant cures. I want something that will preserve the polish better than the current carnauba I'm using. Car is parked outside a couple of days a week at work now that I'm driving it daily, and we have really high UV levels here in Aus so my shine doesn't last at the moment.

Larry your car is looking sharp to me, not sure I'd mess with that kind of success.

FYI, the secret to an incredible shine is the polishing step, the wax/protecant enhances the gloss/depth but doesn't have nearly the affect that a proper polishing will have.

I'm still confused about the reds, is there some reference regarding when Porsche made the switch to two stage paints on all paint colors? Is it possible they made exceptions by request?

I had some extensive conversations with the professional detailers in the concours forum about the differences between single stage vs clear coat and how you care for them....

It turns out some products designed for modern clear coats (think SOFT) do NOT work well with the older single stage paints since they are so hard..... Typically spray waxes do not work well on SS (single stage) paint....like optimum spray wax..which works great on my wifes Acura, but Anthony Orosco told me not to use it on SS.....

When I used Rejex I did find it could cause minor hazing.......
