OK, I see the input bearing on page 34-15 of the manual, as part of the input shaft assy.

Here's one of the diagrams from the WSM
(I added some labels to help me navigate and cleaned up the WSM pic. Please correct me if I got anything wrong)

In addition to the input bearing described by Wally and Jim, are #42 and #46 the only ones that would most likely 'need' to be replaced? (I see that there are other sets of needle bearings and tapered roller bearings as part of the different shafts, but I just want to fix what's broken or relatively easy for a noob like me to replace). I'm thinking of #42(x2) and #46 (x2) and the return spring and reverse lockout spring plus possibly input bearing.

Also,
Can I assume that all of the items marked 'gasket' (5) or 'seal' in this diagram (17, 19, 34, 49) or O-ring (31, 35) would be included in the seal kit?

Jim & Wally,
You raise a very interesting question why the big difference between the different input bearing prices.
928 302 152 06 = $477.92
928 302 152 10 = $53.02
928 302 152 00 = $274.94

There are 14 of the -10 in Germany so available.

PDF PET lists complete content of seal kits at end of each section. One seal kit is used in all manual gearbox versions. Thus there are few parts which are left over no matter which MY gearbox kit is used on.

That WSM picture is for early box. I can be confusing when you try to fix '85 MY version as so many things have changed. I think its better to use correct PET picture and just try to understand what pages in WSM are valid in you case. But your idea is fine. I would change both #42's and #46's.

Forget my earlier advice to change selector shaft support bearings. They were introduced in '87 MY and thus doesn't exist in you case. This is one more thing which is both good and bad in later MY boxes. They probably make selector more easy to use but at same time introduce yet another part to go wrong when gearbox is worn.
