Default Does anyone have any rear light receptacles for an 87?

I recently pulled the rear tail light assmeblies to bake them/dry them out and two of the left side tail light receptacles (the blue and green one) center contacts were disintegrated (the rest were fine). Can these be bought seperately; I can only find them as part of the harness. If not, anyone have any laying around they would be able to sell, please? I need the white plastic retaining disc from the black recepacle also (170 068/3-1/2) Also, I baked/wiped out the tail light assemblies and still can not get the water out (the red glass beneath the reverse light. I got a cloth in there and it was dry; is the plastic two ply? Any tricks?

Thank you!

I see you have a Rodney Mullen, a skateboarding Legend... But about your problem.

Best bet is to find a new harness with new bulb receptacles. The water in the taillight is tough to get out. Try blowing compressed air into it. The top of the taillight where the lense and the white housing meet starts to separate allowing water and condensation in. This can sometimes be sealed back together with silicone.

If you need PM me. I have a harness. With the all the bulb receptacles good except the black. You can probably make it work.

I had to replace nearly ever one of the bulb seats on my S4 and both tail lights also due to cracks and water. I got one good harness from 928Int and then used it and another bad one I had to replace all the bulb seats. It is fairly easy to do and you will have no problem. Use heat shrink sleeves and dielectric grease after you solder the wires together though.

It's in the archives somewhere, but someone found a replacement receptacle from a murcury or ford IIRC. Just need to splice it in.

BTW, the harness is quite expensive.

For anyone having the same issue, I found the post Andrew was talking about (thanks again) https://rennlist.com/forums/928-forum/327078-s4-gt-gts-brake-light-upgrade-mod.html

Matt, thank you for reasonable offer; I am going to try the minivan connector first.

I will post again once the mod is done.

Go to Advanced Auto or Auto Zone or the like. Rummage through their selection of receptacles for other makes and models. I found ones that fit very well, work fine, and they are CHEAP. Bring your assembly with you and try them out for fit. No rocket science here.

I found this one which is the one Borland recommends in his writeup:

I would really like to use the "right" socket in my replacement instead of something just "close". Is the Porsche socket itself available anywhere?

I did this receptacle swap, in a similar way to how Borland described in his posts. It was very easy: just minor trimming of the socket and it screwed right in like the stock one. And you get 4 in a package in case you have to fix more down the road.

Yep - the Porsche sockets were not so great - I think the replacements are at least as good - though they need a little extra work...
