Rent a 928 GTS

Hi,
This may sound a bit farfetched, but I thought I would ask, maybe...
I am getting married in December and plan to spend half of our honeymoon in California (after a week in Bora Bora
).
I have been searching the rental websites for cars to rent for a week or 10 days. So far, my best choice would be a Corvette.
I thought why should I be without a Porsche on my honeymoon? I have a completely restored signal green 968 CS M030 which I use regularly for trips in Europe.
Since my favorite car (next to the 968) is the 928 GTS, I was wondering if there might be one for rent. I have been pondering buying one for years, but I just can't justify it next to my 968, M5 and bikes, etc., especially with European gasoline prices![Frown](https://rennlist.com/forums/images/smilies/frown.gif)
If anyone knows of a car that I could rent (even privately, if that is possible at all) for a decent fee (can be the same as a Vette), please let me know.
I have done some googling but haven't found any, yet.
thanks
adam

I reckon, about 1000-1500 miles.
I figured, the Corvette would cost around a 1000 bucks for a week.
I think it would be a matter of agreement, as there is no offers for a 928 gts to rent.

I don't think you will find a rental "company" that will have a GTS........ & it will be difficult to find an owner that is willing to part with theirs for a week?
Where in CA are you planning on going? Depending on where you go there is high end rentals available, but they are pricey....

Save the money from the Bora Bora trip and BUY a GTS of your own! For the cost of two going to Bora Bora and staying for say a week you could probably afford your own GTS... If you are flying first class, or heck probably even Business class you could CERTAINLY buy a GTS... May have high miles but it could still be an EXTREMELY nice car...at least you could do that here in the US...

Yes, a GT in Finland would undoubtedly be huge fun in January ![Smilie](https://rennlist.com/forums/images/smilies/smile.gif)
A friend has just returned from Florida and said he had rented a Corvette for a week for a grand there. OK, it is FL not CA...
I would like to drive around CA, I have been there a couple of times but obviously haven't seen everything. I would also give a thought to the Grand Canyon if it fits in the timeframe and/or distance.
Anyway, I thought I'd give it a try. I am not surprised, of course, that there aren't any for rent.
About buying a GTS instead of going to Bora Bora:
1. Please, try to convince my bride!![Smilie](https://rennlist.com/forums/images/smilies/smile.gif)
2. I live in Budapest, Hungary. There is a so called registration fee on imported cars. For a 95 GTS it would be around 15K USD, even if it is imported from within the EU. If from the US, add the cost of shipping plus 10% customs + 20% VAT. Now, for that I could buy 2 GTSs in the States or it is the equivalent of renting a private jet to Bora Bora
almost forgot: 1 US gallon almost costs 10 bucks over here...
I have finished complaining. (and editing)

Have actually been thinking along the same lines. Have a dream of visiting the U.S. sometime in the future and go for a trip along the Pacific Coast Highway, preferably in a special car.
Found an L.A. rental company on the web a couple of years ago, just to check the feasibility. Something like a Mustang Cobra cost around $3.000 a week, so pretty steep.
After joining the 928 owners, there's naturally no other car I would rather do the trip in. Not a GTS necessarily of course; any variant would do. After seeing on Rennlist that several owners have more than one shark, I've been wondering if it might be possible to find someone willing to rent out one of them for something like this.
Legal questions comes to mind too - can I as a foreigner drive a privately owned U.S. car, without the owner's presence in the car, and what about insurance issues ?
Anyway, keeping my own shark running, along with my ageing Golf will probably swallow all funds I can scrape together, so the trip is probably postponed indefinitely...

I think only way to get 928 rental in US is simply to buy one and sell it once trip is over. Find older model like early S4 from eBay perhaps and then put it for sale immediatelly. With little luck might make profit even.

Uh, no, don't buy a car - what are you going to do witih it, if it doesn't sell? Abandon it?
If you are desperate to sell by a certain date, you have to sell really cheap - or have a buyer lined up beforehand.
One other scenario might be to use the trip to deliver a car somebody else has bought.

Well, buying a car would be worth only if I stayed for a lot longer, and you have to take it into account that buying a cheap car might get you in unpleasant situations such as breaking down in the middle of nowhere.
I might end up buying a GTS in a few years but there are none for sale here. I don't think that there are many in the country, for that matter, I know of one only and that is not in a good condition. The funny thing is, if there were one for sale it would be a bargain as with such high gas prices it is impossible to sell a 928 gts in Hungary. Sadly, people are into new cars, showing off in Cayenne turbos and X6s, etc., the 928 is even more underrated as in the rest of the world. Only a bunch of enthusiasts really appreciate these cars.
The other problem is that in Hungary there are no roads to drive it properly. There are two-three 10-15 mile long twisties and that's all. I do a lot of track days on my bike and go to the Alps or Croatia for a good blast in my 968.
CA however, would be a perfect place to drive a 928.
