Great Combustion Leak Tester for the 928
David Roberts of 928 Specialists suggested that I use a COMBUSTION LEAK TESTER to check and make sure that I didn't have a leaking head gasket or cracked, warped, or corroded head and/or block that might be causing my S4 to run much too warm.
I bought this kit and it's great! It's easy to use and very, very sensitive. All you do it put a little blue fluid in the two chambers, run your car and/or rev your engine and then suck in an air sample from the coolant tank. If you've got any kind of combustion leak the blue fluid quickly turns yellow.
I ran my car hard, then revved it to 5K RPMs 15 times before the test to get maximum pressures in the cylinders, then tested twice. Both times, the blue color never changed. Hallalulah! That's one more potential problem eliminated. Off eBay the kit cost a little over $50.
Just another useful tool to add to the chest. If you were going to test a potential car for purchase before buying it, this gadget only takes a couple of minutes to use.
It's so sensitive that you can breath into your cupped hand and suck in that air and the fluid will turn yellow from the CO2 gas in your breath.
I figure that having these use only once in a while tools is no big deal since I can someday sell them and get much of my money back.
I won't ship it because it has a bottle of liquid and it's glass but if anyone wants to drop by Resume Speed, Northern Idaho, I'd test your car.
