This owner has not had the car long as it was for sale at Fred Baker in OH for over a year due to the above mentioned issues. At least that is the reason I passed on it.....

As already mentioned, the numbers quoted are not even close to accurate.
How does one get a Concours(e) car from a car that has had extensive paintwork that's detectable?
With the attention put into photo-documenting the Craftsman fender covers, as well as believing that it was the last 5-speed made until told otherwise, you've got to wonder where the priorities and facts lie w/this owner. He may have overpaid for this car himself and is simply trying to get his money (or some of his money) back. Whether he knows about the paintwork or not, unknown (or undisclosed) issues w/this car wouldn't really surprise me.
I wouldn't mind it though.

Makes you wonder where people get the info..... do they make it up or does someone else pass this bad info along?

When I was talking to Fred Baker about this car they were asking $47.9k and wouldn't take any less b/c they paid more for it than that. B/c they didn't do the due diligence required when buying a car like this one?

BTW, the proper name for the judged car show is Concours and not concourse..... as in concourse B at the Phili airport......

Yea, I added the (e) because that's how this guy was spelling it. He said that all of his cars are Concourse.

Chuck, what is your opinion on the price this car should get? You are the man on these GTS cars.

I'm still waiting on my '93 to be delivered.

My speculation on the right price is high $30's due to engine transplant. If the paint/bodywork are very detectable take another $2 K off of that.

Chuck,

Not sure if I believe the dealers story about paying more for the car, sounds like you feel the same way. Most used car dealers are full of you know what and will tell you anything to justify their cost. I had a very respectable dealer tell me that he had a firm offer on a car and a buyer at a higher asking price than what I was offering and I decided to let it go. 1.5 years later the dealer still had the same car on the lot with same asking price.

I would agree with that assesment of the value. It's certainly not a collectors car b/c of the history. Having said that, I was willing to pay low $40k's for it.

Sometimes they are their own worst enemy. I believe they are pretty much on the level when it came to what they paid for this car. I was talking to the GM for almost the entire year they had the car first b/c he wanted some info and later b/c I was willing to take it off their hands. My guess is, this car sold pretty close to the asking price of $47.9k. This seller didn't drive the car much since the miles are almost exactly what they were when FB Porsche had it.

Somebody mentioned about the original battery. I can pretty much guarantee you its NOT the original.......

More about the history of this car. FB Porsche was originally selling it for a customer who's husband bought it without her approval, stuck a bunch of money into it (I have a copy of all the records - it needed a timing belt/H2O pump) and later they ended up in divorce court where she got the car. A couple months into it FBP bought the car from her. At the time they were asking ~$70k for it

Yup. Same story I got when I was considering the car. I also got the 47K into the car speech.. so if it was not true, it was at the very least consistent. I live pretty close to the owner and have seen a WIDE variety of automobiles from various states parked at his house on the weekends.

If somone pays more than 45K for the car, they are getting ripped off. Just my .02.

Stephen

Hey Stephen, you're in the McLean area? Have we seen you at Frenzies?
I haven't been to all of them, but I don't remember seeing a yellow 928 any time recently

Hey Stephen, I hope all is well, long time. The picture in his avatar is of a car I was considering out of Qatar. It was a 93 model and the straw that broke the camels back (no pun intended....) was when the owner hit a rock in the road and tore a bunch of the underside off....... Was a beautiful car with loads of leather, wood and yellow piping. I wanted that one sooooooo bad! It was a 5-speed too....

Hello Chuck. It has been a long time my friend. I am looking to get back into the 928 world. I would really like to find a white GTS 5 speed. Do you remember when we tracked down that Yellow car in the United Arab Emirates.... the one that was originally Red, but left the factory Yellow because the Prince wanted it Yellow. Hard to believe we missed that one too.

So, I guess you could say I am looking for any decent GTS 5 speed. The rest will be a surprise.

I hope you are well. I had forgotten about that car! Yes, I do remember now. That was quite an interesting adventure too! I have the pictures somewhere.....

Join the club looking for a nice GTS 5-speed, my blue GTS resides near you these days. The new owner is a partner in the D.C. Ferrari/Maserati dealership. Great guy!

Kie,

Yea, that car is SA-WEET! I am LOVING Blue82 like you can't believe. Hooked up a battery tender to it tonight. Have done a clay/polish/wax job on the paint. While it did not need it from an oxidation standpoint it was not buttery smooth like the leather. That interior.... OH MY GAWD! I just want to lay the seat back and sleep in the thing! WOW!!!

Stephen, SWEET ride in your avatar! Sad story about it! Good luck w/ a 5spd GTS. They are out there. A fair number of them actually... the problem is condition! You get one with under say 15k miles on it and it will be perfect, but heck you really would not want to drive it at that point. Get one with 70k miles and it won't be perfect w/o some paint and/or other work. 35k - 50k miles is the sweet spot on GTS's I think.

I would LOVE to hear your comparison (since you have already owned some GTS's) between the GTS and the A/M Vantage!!! The Vantage IS the new 928 in my view! That is where the 928 should have ended up in the long run. Maybe even faster and with more power. After all it would have been easy to go from the 5.4L GTS on up to over 6.0L... With all the current tech... that car would have been a TERROR on the street! Probably a close competitor (in speed and price) to a Ferrari 599! I think the Vantage is the spiritual successor to the GTS though and would LOVE to hear/read a comparison from someone with loads of experience with both!

Chuck, good luck on your search for a GTS you can actually drive too! You guys are awesome! Love that you care so much for the marque and model that you give Kermit a good home, but love them enough to want a few more to drive!

I am here keeping the flame alive with all you other crazy 928 fans! Took a friend with a Cayman (non-S) for a ride tonight in the '92 GTS. It was his first 928 ride. He has lots of superbike track experience so I didn't even TRY to scare him, I just showed him what it can do... He LOVED IT! He noted how different from the Cayman the 928 is! He was helping me w/ the batter tender and was AMAZED at the quality of the car!

They killed a few vinyl cows for the interior in my '91.
The didn't make vinyl cows. They made 'naugas'. Any body remember this fella?
