Default DFW 928 OC GTG Pictures

For those interested, I took a few pictures at the DFW OC get together we had Saturday at Einstein's Bagels in Plano. The shots didn't come out as well as I would have liked, but I imagine there will be plenty more photo opportunities.

Poor green car... OUCH! I like the color though. One of these days I am going to have a dark green 928... I also want a '78 in Kermit green... Ah well, we can all dream can't we?!

That green car is on its way to recovery--it was fortunate to be adopted into John's collection (now up to 5). The interior is complete and looks as if it needs a good cleaning. Runs and sounds great although the lowrider stance indicates some shocks may be needed. Great to see everyone on Saturday.

The group decided to call the green car "the jalapeno". After the GTG, I went to Brad W's house to put the car on the lift to find out exactly why the car was so low. Apparently, a PO (I'm not going to say THE PO) decided that the factory ride height was too high so he heated up the springs with a blowtorch to de-spring the front springs. There are now 3 coils of the spring basically riding on top of one another. Pretty ingenious way to do it while on the car, but I wouldn't recommend it. Front springs and shocks are on order. The rears are just adjusted all the way down. The car runs good and it is amazing to me how good the interior is compared to the outside. There is evidence that the car was repainted at some point, so I'll just repaint it again. I just hate the prep work to get it done. Maybe the paint prep fairies will do it while I'm sleeping some night, but I'm not holding my breath.

Poor Justin....reduced to working on a '67 VW bug. He is not answering his phone BTW, do you suppose he's just embarassed for himself?

I really wouldn't care who prepped the car or what orientation they were as long as they didn't expect me to be involved. LOL

The sad part is that it takes he same amount of labor to perfect-prep a beetle as it does most any other car. Makes it tough to justify on the beetle anyway.

He can do any level of work you want, from Sherwin Williams and a mop up to concours. Problem is, he has a lot of different jobs running at any one time, and you can't really set a delivery date. Well, you can, but he'll ignore it. My red GT was done in under 3 months. Right now he's painting an amphib plane, but he works cars around the planes.

hmm... me thinks I might need to talk to him. Three months for a good prep and paint is actually not that bad. In a previous life of restoring old Jags, three months was fully expected for good quality paint. I want to get mine done before next summer's 928 convention.

OK, we can put you together. His shop is in far west Justin, about 10 miles due west from 928sRUS. What I dun with my is to have the car pulled mostly apart by me and Sean. We pulled the bumpers, mirrors, wing, lights, and some other gewgaws. The painter got it on a trailer and did his thing, then we got it all back to Roger's house and Sean mostly put it all back together again. It's prolly the cheapest and best way to do it because Sean can have it apart in a few hours, where the painter would take double that time, and same with assembly. Painter will do the work, but it takes him more time, where Sean can button it back up toot-sweet.

Another shark gets a new lease on life! YEA!!! I love it! Even if it costs more than the cars are worth in the long run I love seeing these cars brought back.

Yea, 3 months for a prep and paint is NOT BAD AT ALL! If the price is right and the job is good that makes it even better!

John added another. That means the stepson get even less attention?

We took off for the lake on Friday night after my sons game for the long weekend. Sorry I missed you guys. I really need to see Roger and grab some parts.

Maybe next month...
