What a blast!
Track day was lots of fun yesterday. The day started off rainy (rolled in unexpectedly at 3:00 am, and was still going until 10, almost ), so we got a later start waiting for that to blow out. Arrived at the track at 12'ish, and managed to hook up right away with ttaddict (Les) and 87 944 C (Chris), when Tony spotted Les' 89 S4.
Our cars all did pretty well, though I did almost hit the wall , and Kevin couldn't keep his tires from spinning...even half way down the track!
My best time of three runs was my first one, oddly enough. 14.646, and I was annoyed because my trans shifted 1-2 before I told it to. Think I would have done better if it had stuck. So Kevin adjusted it before I went out for pass #2, and boy did he fix it!
It didn't help that I went through the water trap and didn't do a burnout, so I couldn't keep my wheels from spinning this time, and when I shifted to 2, the back end swung out to the left, almost putting me into the wall. Yikes! Let off the gas, punched it again, and launched! Wooo hoo! Too bad I spent so much time slip sliding away, cuz I got a 17 something on that pass (lost the ticket). Kevin told me all the staff members were holding their faces waiting to see me crash, and then just shook their heads when I brought it back...
That was against ttaddict, who left me in the dust. Holy smoke, his car is fast! He was half way down the track before I got hooked up.
We didn't get to race who we wanted, and so most of our races were against other cars with slicks and way out of our league. But with the time slips they handed you at the end of each run, you still got to see how everyone did.
The third pass, I got better traction, but for some reason, I guess I didn't shift at the right time or whatever, and only came in with a 14.845.
Still, I'm not complaining. My 84 Euro only did 15.5 when it left the factory 24 years ago according to a little Porsche manual we have. So Kevin definitely did something to my car to make it fast, even after removing the s/c system.
This was my first time at a track, and I know I made a lot of dumb mistakes, including not knowing how to do burnouts before going, so next time, I'll be a bit better prepared. Burnout classes begin immediately!
Kevin's car spent the whole time spinning tires, so he could only go half way down on the gas. Everytime he floored it, the tires broke loose! He got a 13.8 the first time, a 14 something the second time, and a 13.9 the third time. Very cool!
Next time, he definitely needs slicks, and he definitely needs to make himself a posi! ]
Here are the best of the 155 (!!!) pictures my kids took of the day, and if anyone has any advice on how to post short video clips, we have a few of those too.

Looks like you guys had a great time!I hate that I missed it after all the work I did to get ready.Lesson learned though, its nice to help and mentor a young person in their interests but don't become complacent and think that they totally understand what you are showing them.Although while putting the suspension together I was checking on him I took his word that he tightened everything properly.I was supposed to physically check the torque values myself.Thankfully a missed weekend was all that happened.
I'm hoping that maybe we could try it again before the snow flies?
p.s. kevin's 2.62 pulley is done!!

We're all really glad that you found out you had the problem before you got onto major highways and too far from your shop to make it back, and best of all without anybody getting hurt!
So I guess this all means we'll be seeing you on Sunday, right? Now that you know what the problem is, you can put it back to rights by then? Please say yes!
