Default Ever used your 928 AS a tool?

I've used a lot of tools on my 928, but today was the first time I used my 928 as a tool, a hydraulic press to be exact.

I'm putting an attic ladder in my newly finished attic. I missed the step on the instructions that told me to rotate the hinged struts that support the door before I took off the bars that kept the strut from extending. No problem, I thought. I'll just take them off, compress them, put the bars back on and reinstall them correctly. No can do. I'm pretty sure I can generate a good 50-60 pounds of pressure with my Adonis like physique, but they didn't budge.

Solution. I jacked up the 928, put one end of the struts in the crack that sections off my garage floor and the other end somewhere under the floor of the car where they weren't going to damage the car, lowered the car, compressed the struts, attached the retaining bars, raised the car and voila!, problem solved.

I'm quite proud of myself actually. It doesn't take much.

Brett,

I read once that during "pioneer" days there were more inventions per capita than in our current time. If you needed something, there was no alternative but to develop a solution to the problem.

It looks like the pioneer spirit lives on in Noblesville, Indiana.

Congratulations!

I used a similar method to compress the fingers on a pressure plate when I did the clutch on my saab. I didn't have a press. lol

If it would have been me, the strut would have puncture one of my car's vital organs no matter how careful I tried to be.

Why not just use the jack to compress the strut sideways against a wall?

Hey, I went to Ikea and bought a bed and stuffed the entire thing into the back of the 928. I didn't believe it......until I got it home. Of course part of it hung out the back of the hatch, but that's just a minor detail I sweated until I got home. My 928 truck

My Godzilla is a precision tool, designed and manufactured for a purpose. I have modified this tool to fit my particular style and needs, and every time I use it, it performs the job with surgical precision.
