I have not been able to work on my own car anymore due to a back operation.(83)
I took it in for a smog check and it was running VERY rich.
I had to take to a knowledgeable Porsche mechanic for diagnosis and repair. He says everything checks out, but it is running very rich. When he disconnects the O2 sensor the car runs less rich. Could this be a bad brain? It would seem to me that if the brain is doing anything it is probably working, but we are both unfamiliar with a typical failure of the brain.
Thanks

My 88 was idling very rich. I think it's one of the failure symptoms of the LH. I don't know if the 83 has the same setup. Check with Rich at Electronik Repair in AZ.

L-Jet brains rarely ever have problems.
Check the resistance of the Temp II (coolant) sensor, on top of the thermostat bridge, with a fuel injector type connector. Measuring between the two terminals (not to ground) should show only a few hundred ohms or less when warm, but should not be infinite.
