This is OT from 928's, but at the Asheville parade there was this guy with a 57 Speedster w/Fuchs on it. nothing unusual about that until he started it up and we found out what the Fuchs were attached to. He had a 70 911S chassis under it. That was a sleeper!

My GTS was bought by guy in Hamburg with intention to put its entire drivetrain into his Nordstadt Golf. I believe its black one in Nicole's last picture. He had manual GTS in that picture for sale maybe year or two after I bought mine from him since its engine was in too bad shape to be used. Pieces in another GTS must have been too good shape to chop it to parts and thus it too was sold of as complete car.

I vaguely remember reading about this "rabbit" in one of the Brit mags - Autocar maybe in the late '70s or early '80s. It had a higher top end speed than the 928 due to it's superior aerodynamics.
I know some will question how a boxy shape can be more aerodynamic than the 928. I'm not surprised aerodynamics is a complex science - some say a black art. EG: the Cd of an Audi 5000 was the same as a Pontiac TransAm of its time). Someone on Rennlist may have a copy of the article.
I also saw it featured in an AutoMotor und Sport magazine but couldn't understand the article since it was written in German.

It is not a Rabbit with 928 bits; it is a complete 928 with an imitation Rabbit body wrapped around it.
There was a story that it was a solution for 928s with wrecked bodies but I could never quite believe that this was a cheaper solution than simply fixing the 928 body.

How could it possibly be a better daily driver than a real 928, when it is exactly the same car?
I find it not entirely unlike acquiring the Mona Lisa only to hide her behind a Kiss poster... Completely and utterly pointless.

You mean you don't have to worry about door dings because the car is already ugly? May I suggest getting a cheap 928 off of e-bay and prepping it with a baseball bat and a couple of left-over spray cans - same effect, lots cheaper ...

Hi Niels: Hope you are not suffereng too badly from 928 withdrawals...
I think this is the car for areas of "social envy". It's pure understatement - saying "See, I just drive a Golf like the rest of you", rather than saying "I drive a Porsche". Well, you actually do, without saying it out loud.
The other point is just the surprise factor on the Autobahn. At the time no Golf went much beyond 180 km/h, so keeping up with BMWs, Mercedes' and Porsches at 220 kmh/+ sounds like a fun tease.
Yes, the real 928 is much prettier - no doubt. And it's the real thing. But not everybody really liked the look, so here is an alternative for those folks who still like the technology of the 928...

I do miss it, but no, I just really don't see the point in spending a fortune and a lot of time deliberately making a work of art look like a brick on wheels. I think the 928 looks the part - no more, no less, no need to hide it.
In my mind, a real perferct daily driver would be a 928 with reduced (a lot) fuel consumption and without the nasty repair bills. I still think the closest I can get to that right now is an 06 or 07 987S with a factory warranty. It's probably cheaper than rebuilding a 928 to look like a Golf too ...

There was a GTS on ebay where someone installed an Audi Diesel engine. However, the car was incomplete, and they did some funky change to the headlights. I think someone was probably overwhelmed by the electrical system...
