Fuel Hose Replacement, holy sh*t that was close!
I was going to order the fuel hose kits Roger supplies along with a few other items I am having shipped out, but I had a feeling that with my luck the fuel line would burst before my package came, so I went to the local auto parts store and got some 5/16 vacuum line and some worm clamps
.
okay okay I didn't get vacuum lines and worm clamps for a replacement, I figured EFI fuel hose and FI clamps would be just as good.
I feel much better after this:
note: the 3rd pic is the repaired U hose behind the MAF, it wasn't bad but I replaced it anyway, the missing pieces in pics 1 and 2 are from what happened when I squeezed the other hose to see what kind of shape it was in.

sorry to be the bearer of bad news, your replacement U should NOT be put in. That hose is not designed to take that bend and it will collapse and break!

I had that in mind the entire project, that is why I made the replacement a tad longer so that it would not collapse, I changed the position of the hose slightly so that it would not kink up.

you would be amazed how little those hoses are made to bend before they get internal damage/collapsing.
How far away is Roger's kit?
I think I would wait. If it was able to be done with a piece of hose like you have done, then he wouldnt have purchased the factory piece for that as he could have gotten away with what you have done.

The hose I purchased was already shaped for the bends, i feel pretty confident in these hoses, at any rate they are light years ahead of what was on there.....

I am the same way, I spent most of the day installing these hoses and cleaning the engine bay, I wanted to make sure that the hose didn't kink or deform like the hoses I pulled off, I wish I would have taken pictures of the installed hoses...

the minimum bend radius for this hose is 0.84 inches, so the horseshoe shaped hose on the aft end of the fuel rails of my 86.5 seems like no problem. The manufacturer's data should be checked, though.

Interesting subject - the standard min bend rad for SAE 30R9 hose is 3-3/4" while goodyear are quoting 0.84" and 0.94". That is an incredibly tight bend rad for a rubber hose.
How come they quote two different bend rads for exactly the same hose that differes only in the length of the coil you buy.
I would want to reafirm the bend rad data before I beleive it.
The bend rad on the 87 to 95 U hose is 0.75" and that is why I supply a preformed hose to that exact size.
If the hose is bent beyond its min bend rad it will collapse.

I was hoping you would both chime in on this. Roger, I know the incosistency in the G/Y specs, but it is small, so I think can be disregarded, even if it is a bit sloppy of them. And LZ I know the S4 hose has a tighter bend but it looks still to be within the G/Y spec. Note that this is the only manufacturer I've looked at (because I used their hose). I am all for erring on the side of safety, especially in an area as critical as this, and I think you are right, Roger, in supplying a preformed hose no matter what any mfr says for the S4 app. I think it is interesting that G/Y go as low as they do on the min rad for their J30R9 - maybe that blue inner liner has something to do with it.
