On my '87 there is a 3 pin bosch type connector laying in the floor under the fuse panel. (connected to nothing) Looks like there are 2 terminals used in the connector!
What is this for?

It adjusts the MAF signal to the LH, to allow adjusting the idle mixture to a known baseline for the fuel map. Pins 1 and 2 are used.
Was your car ever run without cats/O2 sensor? Might want to check the coding plug on the LH to make sure that got changed too when the O2 sensor was added.

+1 what xlot writes. AFAIK, all 87+ have the plug. Non-02-country-destined cars came with the pot plugged into it.

My car had factory Cats. I guess I just need to confirm that on a factory car with Cats, for the US that plug is just not used. (Left unplugged.)

On all US/canadian 928 S4+ cars that is left unplugged, and dangling.
Should you wish to add the potentiometer, you will have to repin it for ROW specs.
