Default 100mph crash; and they walked away.

Just brought this car home as a parts car. According to the police report the car was traveling at approximately 100mph when it left the road on a curve. Cleared the ditch and broke both lower control arms when it slammed into the embankment on the other side. Then rolled onto it's roof ans slid to a stop. Both driver and passenger walked away without a scratch. Car still runs good and would drive it it weren't for the broken arms.

Proof that speed [alone] does not kill. The type of impact is a major factor.

And if a squirrel had hidden an acorn there 50 years ago and forgotten about it ....they would be dead ! So what parts from this are needed for the race car project ?

No parts needed for the race car. Honestly; I bought it because the price was right and the 4.7 will be a good backup engine for my wifes car.

Turn it upside down, shake it and slam it on the ground and it still runs. Wada car.

Looks like rolled, yes, but slammed into anything? Almost no side damage visible anywhere to my eyes?

I don;t think that car was exceeding 100mph when it left the road. More like 80.

Just to be curious what did you pay for it as a parts car?

Agreed 100%

A close friend of mine lost a law partner back in '88 in a similar accident. They settled a big case and the gentleman immediately purchased a brand new 928 S4. Two days later he failed to negotiate a corner at a high rate of speed and needless to say we were all wearing black a few days later. The accident sounds just like this one with the exception of there was a very large tree on the other side of the ditch...He hit so hard his Rolex came off his arm and they found the watch some 20 yards away...

HP,

If that person did not survive, it would seem likely that it was due to not wearing a seatbelt as the driver's compartment is very much intact.

A lot of trauma is caused internally by abruptly stopping from high speeds. Even if the "cage" is intact and they were wearing a belt, it does not mean that someone's brain or other internal organs were not destroyed / severely damaged by the resulting G forces.

That is why motorcycle helmets are designed to slow the deceleration of the skull and absorb impact forces, to keep your brain from bruising / crushing against the inside of your skull.

An intact driver’s compartment does not mean the crash was survivable, even with a seatbelt.
Dale Earnhardt’s race car had a very intact driver’s compartment, so did the CGT crash from a couple of years ago, yet both passengers died.

Quick Reply: 100mph crash; and they walked away.
