Default Another 928 S4 For Sale

Fellas, this is a feeler. I doubt it will sell here, but I need some feedback about my price. This is my car and I tend to be critical of my possessions and not one that thinks my car is the nicest thing to ever hit the streets.

I have an opportunity to get a 41k '93 GTS 5-spd for $36,500.

I can not keep 2 cars though. I need to sell this car to help fund the other car, if I get it (pending the PPI etc). My level of income does not support two 928's.

My car:

1987 S4 Auto. Indischrot Red with black interior. 85k miles.

Drivetrain:
TB/WP done by me and Rixter when I got it at 81k miles (used the kit from 928 Specialist w/ the Porsche WP and Porsche approved TB). New Bosch plugs, caps, rotors, and Beru wires. Upgraded to larger intake tubes from 928sRus. 928 Motorsports aluminum cross-brace. Red Line synthetic ATF and filter change at 82k miles. Intake and valve covers still have intact factory coatings with no peeling. Also has a new JDS Porsche LH ECU and Autothority chip set (I still have the stock chips that will go with the car). K&N Filter has been in place for about 2k miles. The auto trans shifts great and is a ball to manually shift with the 928 Motorsports shifter. The motor mounts are good and the motor sits squarely in the engine bay and at the proper height.

Suspension:
New Bilstein shocks with alignment and ride height adjustment done by Brad Moyer at Digital Chassis in Durham NC (local 928 specialist). 18"x8" and 18"x10" Carrera III's with Continental Contact Sport 2's installed at 81k miles. Brakes are excellent. Handling is excellent. The steering is nice and tight and the steering rack is dry.

Exhaust:
FlowMaster Super 44's and 928 Motorsports Stainless Steel RMB. There is currently has a polished stainless steel X-pipe from Motorsports Inc. on the car, but that is coming off to go on the GTS. I will replace it with the factory cat section, which I still have. Car has an awesome sound as-is and should still sound great with the factory cats back in place.

Exterior:
Paint 7/10 with just a few minor dings. This a Rub Strip delete car. Excellent tail lights with no cracks and all sockets are good with no rust in the bulb seats (I know because I replaced them all). New passenger side driving light. Bumper Plugs in place on the front bumper cover. Both belly panels are there and intact. Driving lights upgraded with Euro Kit from Hooked On Cars (kit replaced the bumperettes with clear lens). New SIGLA windshield with antenna and factory tint bar (beautiful glass).

Interior:
Seats 8/10 and have been redyed and have no rips and just average wear. 8-way power seats work fine. Dash had 3 small cracks inbetween the vent openings which I covered with the vent kit from Hooked On Cars. Pod has one small crack in the center that is about 3" long and is tight and still hard to see. New Lloyds mats w/ 'PORSCHE' lettering. Brand new Porsche 930S steering wheel (stock extended hub wheel included). 928 Motorsports 'Sport Shifter' upgrade (awesome mod, makes shifting much more fun). New Blaupunkt Bahamas MP46 with SW Stereo wiring harness and amp bypass harness (no wires were cut during install). New digital clock. All gauge lights and interior lights work. Missing pliers and seat tool from the tool kit (I'll get replacements before the car sells). Several items from Nicole at Hooked On Cars added to the interior. Also has a Paul Champagne armrest console liner (gray w/ "PORSCHE - There Is No Substitute" lettering).

The AC is currently out of commission, but it will be fixed by Brad Moyer before I sell the car. It needs some new seals and a recharge.

The car is garage kept. I have every receipt for the car since I bought it and a lot of service records from the 2nd owner (who owned it the longest). The 1st owner did not keep it long and the 3rd owner didn't drive it much, so service records during their ownership are not there. I am the 4th owner.

I drove this car to SITM '08 and it performed awesomely. Handling, power, looks, it has it all. This car can be driven anywhere in the country, and that is no bull****.

I feel like it's worth $17,000.

These pictures were taken today.

That's a nice car. I have made a lot of sacrifices to eventually end up with a nice S4 5 speed, but knowing what I know now: I could be happy with my first 928. A '78 5 speed I sold in '93. Even a '78 a/t would do it for me.

David, I was on the GTS kick too bud. Friendly observation here. You are not getting any more car than you have now. Are you really comfy with spending an extra 20k + for flared quarters and a reflector strip? There are other things like the PSD and the "extra" 29 HP, as well as the digital dash features and such. But the fact is the GTS is really just another S4 ,that happens to command a premium over its predecessor. You have a very nice s4 there for sure and I could see you trading up to a 5-spd, but thats alot of extra dough for something you have 95% of now.

Kevin,

That's a good point of view and I wonder the same things myself.

Anybody else with some input? I need some good advice as the car is on the table.

Is it a good move to spend the extra $20k to get a newer lower mileage car?

Here is the car:

Well, Kevin, I have to say you are right... I have always said the same thing. An S4 is 95% of a GTS... I also say to anyone looking at 928's, BUY A GTS if you can...it is THE BEST! Hands down! If you can't buy a GTS then see the previous statement...get an S4!

If the PPI checks out and you really want it I say go for it and don't look back. Put the right effort into marketing your car and it will sell quick.

If you aren't 100% sure this GTS is for you or if you have any doubts about the car or the PPI then I would think twice.

That is the original intake and valve cover coatings, they look great and there is no peeling at all.

The best source I have so far for a PPI is from Rixter, he recommended S.M. Motorsports Inc in New Hyde Park NY (about 73 miles away from the car).

Does anyone know of a good 928 mechanic that is closer to Southampton NY for the PPI?
