Default Pictures of lexan windows with sliding kits needed, please

Hi list,

I am talking to my Lexan guy and he would like to see some pictures of a 928 lexan window with a sliding kit on it and preferably an air-scoop. Your help would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Alex

Alex,

Don't know how many 928s have that configuration really. For inspiration and a visual tutorial look at the current racing GT2 (?) Ferraris in the ALMS series. Other ALMS competitor cars have the same configuration for their side glass, IIRC.

Since that modification is not class legal in POC / PCA racing you probably need to look at the 911 cup cars factory racers for inspiration.

Look for pics of some of the race cars out of England and I think Fat Bully out of SA might have what you are looking for...

I think there might be some pics of the English racers on the "best 928 collection" thread...

Jim brings up a good point. Probably first need to study the rule book(s) for the race series you are interested in racing and find out what's allowed as far as side window treatments.

Good luck,
Constantine

Thanks for the suggestions. Lexan and Perspex side glass is allowed in the VLN, Porsche Open, Britcar and many other series in Europe. In fact, Lexan and Perspex is allowed for the windscreens too, provided you change it once per year and furnish paperwork to prove the change when requested by the scrutineers...

Please give me a bit more credit - I have studied the rules and regulations in great detail. I would not embark on a $60k project without actually knowing what is allowed and what not by the regulations...

Alex

Hi Alex,

Please do not be offended! Even Pro teams need to re-read the rule books since some are caught out of a race due to small infractions as has happened at Le Mans and other pro events in the past.

Now back to the side glass, I really like the window treatments of the Ferrari's. One thing that I thought would be a good air scoop and that were used in some current racers are small round lexan or perspex aircraft vents. Once installed you can pop them up and rotate them around to either catch air or vent air. Or pop them down and they are mostly flush fit except for a small semi-flat bubble. A few installed along the leading edge of the side driver's window would catch good air and blow it directly onto the driver.

Another version is the standard venturi duct that can be installed at the front bottom corner of the driver's glass like some NASCAR teams do. Only problem with them is you have to work out a way to shut them off if it's too cold or raining.

Let us know what you come up with.

Cheers,
Constantine

I think I am going along with your suggestion from above, along with a sliding window. The 928, with its big glass house can get very, very hot in sunny weather, hence I am "doubling up"....

P.S. No offence was taken at your comment re the rule book....

Do you still have the heater box in this car ?? if not the rectangular hole in the firewall can be used as an intake for cool air into the cabin, the base of the windscreen is a high pressure area. Some additional venting at the rear of the car also can help. And heat is the primary reason Mark A. paints his cars WHITE !! He runs a partial window covering the front 1/4 of the opening that keeps most of the air out of the car but passes tech inspection Must work he hits 170 MPH + at California speedway as he goes into the banked turn !

I still have the heater box in the car, but it is a great idea. Thanks for that. I have seen Mark A's car arrangement. I think I need the full window though as the Nordschleife and the UK sees rain quite often and the car still remains street legal...
