Default Climate control - cockpit too warm

Hello all,

When driving without the A/C in cool temperatures, there's a lot of warm air coming out of the vents (especially throught the door vents) even with the temperature slider set at 18 celcius (the lowest mark). The cockpit temperature increases as the engine is more sollicitated.

A/C works fine and steady but is not as performant as my small 4 cylinder Toyota! I believe the system mixes some heated air with the A/C cooled air.

Any idea as to what goes wrong?

Regards.

Just read this. Chances are you have more than one issue, I had leaks in the 4 way splitter, a bad check valve, cracks in the solenoid manifold and a disconnected line to the recirculation flap, all of which needed to be fixed before I had really cold air.

oups59 (Luc) is a 928 owner and Rennlist member in Montreal.

The primary reason for unwanted hot air is the hot water valve located at the back of the engine block under the air filter housing; it either leaks or doesn't close properly or both and requires replacement to resolve. Not a big fix and at less the $40 cheap in 928 terms that is.

I just had the same issue. after ripping apart a whole bunch of stuff... I found that the issue was a bad vaccume check valve. on my 85 it is located in-line "t-ing"off the vacc for the brake booster at the firewall. Mine was blue and white. I picked up a new one in the "help" section at the local auto parts store. I think it was about $4.00.. I have ICE ICE BABY cold ac now.

I found the problem!

Main vaccum hose disconnected from the solenoids manifold.

I also found that the micro-switch activated by the manual defrost setting of the central ventilation grids was faulty. I repaired it but I'm not sure about its effect on the ventilation??? Any idea?

Thank you all for your inputs.

Michel.
