Smile The most absurd road you've ever taken

It's marked on my maps as the Tremalzo Pass near Lake Idro, Italy. It's marked as a paved road, no different to many other roads we took. However when we got there it seemed to rather different. Eventually we turned round, but only after persevering for some way.

This is why I hate Porsche owners. "Like OMG, that's dirt and gravel, I can't drive my car on it because it might get dirty, or even worse, I could ruin my pedicure."

My driveway is driveway is dirt and gravel. My car is never clean. Every trip in my car begins and ends with a view not too unlike your first picture.

With all due respect JHowell37, there`s a difference between dirty, and the gravel is so sharp it will slice up my tires in no time, right ?

If the gravel were that sharp, I doubt they'd use it on the roads. I've driven a few thousand miles on gravel in my life and can honestly say that I have never once had an issue with it. That stuff doesn't look any more sharp then the blue-chip gravel that my current driveway is made from. Other then the dirt and dust, gravel is easier on your tires then pavement because the gravel always gives first. Your tire will kick the gravel out of the way or simply push it down into the road bed long before a sharp edge from a stone will cut into the tire.

Worst road I ever took was after I took delivery in Denver and roadtripped it back to California with my dad. We stopped to see a peach grower he knew in Grand Junction on the way, and although the grower knew we were in an old Porsche that were weren't very familiar with, he didn't tell us the 5 mile "road" to his orchard was gravelly and steep. It was there, in 105 degree heat, that we discovered that the auxiliary fan switch didn't work and that the driver's side window switch would burn out in the "down" position. I didn't get a picture of the road, but I did get a picture of the peach crew.

What my pictures don't show very well is that it's a 15% gradient in places. If my car had not been at standard ride height I would not have got more than 50 yards. Instead I reckon we covered about a mile before giving up, luckily there was that perfect turning point shown in the third pic, otherwise it would have been very very difficult indeed, as the road was no wider than the first pic, with a very steep drop on one side.

What's interesting about your road is the tunnel. That took some serious effort. It must have been a *very* old road, as the effort for the tunnel is disproportionate to the effort made on the road surface. It could only have been done prior to modern paving.

Apparently built during WWI, so not as old as many other roads in the area.

That looks like a fun road to drive on, esp with a dirtbike.
