Forged pistons, molly rings, it sounds like a great candidate for boost if it was built right.

So whats the deal? Who built it?

I don't understand why someone would not just put the engine in and sell the car. It's kinda like the ad for a car for sale that says the car only needs A, B and C but they are easy and cheap fixes - yet the current owner didn't do them. They make it sound like engine installation is super hard and should only be left to the pros? This coming from engine builders, um 'kay.

I think I know this car...

I need to verify if this is indeed the car before I spill the beans. If it is... run away!

Have you ever tuned a custom motor before? I'm thinking no.

I know a few engine builders and I also know a few engine tuners. They are not always the same person.

Yep... confirmed!

Here's the story:

A number of years back, we had a guy local int he Detroit group that had this car. The car needed a new TT - or at least he thought it did. So he had a shop install it. They screwed up and did not check the crank end-play or pre-load on the flex plate. Several months later, the car suffered a catastrophic thrust bearing failure.

We told the guy where to go, but he said he found this D&S place and they assured him they could fix it because they know hot rods, blah blah blah....

Well... they couldn't do it. I really don't know everything that transpired, but I know a year later, the car was sitting in the yard with the windows down and everything inside was pretty much pucked! Then the law suits started.

Fast forward to today. It looks like D&S must have secured the title on it, but the interior looks like it may have been replaced, they still don't have an engine in it, and who knows if anything works on it.

I would say at best, this car is worth scrap.

Oh I'm not talking about tuning, just installing the engine in the car and maybe getting a base tune so the car can be driven part-throttle. I don't think "Porsche pros" as is stated in the ad would be able to tune a custom built engine very well either.
