Radio quit - Help Please
Hi, the Porsche CD2 radio in my 89 S4 mysteriously quit working yesterday. It was fine when I drove to work. When I went to drive home, nothing. The LCD window lights up blue, but has no display (no numbers or anything). Ther is no sound or static or anything from the speakers. The CD player quit working a few years ago, so i can't test that function.
Has anyone experienced this and is there anything I can check. I don't think it's a fuse, because the LCD display lights up, so it looks like teh radio is getting power. I want to keep the stock look of the CD 2, but will reploace with an newer stereo if repair is ridiculous. I hate the bling look of most new stereos. Any suggestions on something that would look good in a stock 89 dash. Thanks for any suggestions.

Unfortunately the CD-2 is no longer supported and many of us have non-working radios. Alpine stopped carrying parts for these a couple of years ago IIRC.
If you're ok with aftermarket I owuld suggest a Nakamichi CD300 or CD400 as a good replacement. They're hard to find and a little pricey but they will look right at home in the dash.
Another solution is the Blaupunkt, they offer one or two which look "normal"

Check the fuses - note "fuses", not "fuse". There are usually two power sources for the radio - always on, to keep the settings, and ignition switch controlled, to furnish the operating power.

If you do end up replacing it, be sure to get a unit with a line-in jack for plugging in an iPod type device.
Once you have that capability, you will never again load your car up with CDs.

Anyone know if the Porsche CR 220 is a direct fit replacement. There are a couple of these on e-bay and they look good.

I have an odd problem - it looks like the FM section of my radio died. AM still works. Don't know about the cassette. The car is in the shop getting a new A/C compressor so I can't run out to the garage and try it.
So it looks like I may be in the market for a new radio as well.

I believe after a certain year the newer style head units require a fiber optic type of security link to the rest of the cars electronics for it to work. Not sure of the cut off, 2003 maybe? Either way, best to check into it before buying on e-bay.

Just had the same thing happen to me while updating the audio system. I was messing around with the amp on my 1988 and popped the fuse. Check 15 amp fuse for the radio. I had the exact symptoms and a fuse change was all that was needed. Good luck.
