Greg,

West is a SUPER guy...he was two HCR presidents after me and I think he was then drug back into the position a year or two ago. He, Wally, Gross, Van Horn...all SUPER GUYS! Miss that gang more than I miss driving on the track frankly!

That 928 belongs to a guy that has been banned from here...not sure why though... Mark Robinson. They have worked on it some and I think did a reasonable job with the car. They have hardly driven the thing though so who really knows how it will run or last...

That may be the absolute funniest thing I have ever read in my entire life......

Guess that's why in every movie it ever appeared in, it was being driven by a guy smokin' panties.

There's something about taming a beast, animal or machine, that's difficult to ride or drive, that some guys think makes them more of a man. The 911 is such a beast; it has a reputation for sliding off the road if one cannot drive it properly, and for the first few decades, that reputation was well deserved. Few normal drivers were able to master handling that was so unlike what front engine cars had gotten them used to. So, lots of 'men' who drive them like to say so with a bit of pride. Doesn't matter whether they really can drive them at 10/10ths, as long as they think they could. 928's by comparison are a vastly superior design (I know I'll get flamed for that, but it's true). Perfect front aft weight balance, predictable handling, what's to want? But some people think they have to endure hardship to prove their masculinity. Drive lousy handling cars, drink putrid whisky, stand out in the cold till their toes fall off, yeah, that makes the man. Me, I'll take the 928 any day. Make mine white with a big black stripe, and some type of saddle color interior.

My wife and I went to the local Porsche club meeting last night.

A number of people asked who belonged to the blue 928. We got nothing but compliments.

Not bad for a car that's 21 years old this month.

Q.., Why dont,people like the 928 ?

A.., Because they,ve got no taste !, and I mean that sincerly,... to me it,s a special person that takes on a 928.., especially long term, I don,t mean special as in "I,m better than you" kind of way..., the cars not particularly beautiful, it has some drawbacks, it is not particularly fashionable, but then QUALITY was never fashionable.
The 928 look,s like one hell-uva brute........, and it is !, and that,s where it,s beauty lies, standing beside one, it,s not intimidating,..... move a few feet away and it,s appearance/dimensions seem to change,... a bit monster-esque !

If you were asked to draw a Porsche, any model you would draw with a series of curves/slight angles etc,.... draw a 928 and you would depict it with one stroke,.....almost as if the car was created from one big lump of aluminum.

In 40 years of motoring Iv,e owned some really nice heavy duty cars, and yes 3 Amercan models a 74 Corvette, 69 Mustang and a 76 Trans-am,... I loved them all,..... but I love my 928S a whole lot more !!!
Regards

Ken

My experience as all been positive.

If some don't like it a multitude do...

Many don't know what it is...A guy yeld "Ferrari" the other day.

Mabe some think its ugly but they have never told me, and I don't want to know and I don't ask.

A "chick" in a car next to me said "your car is beautiful" I said thank you and she emphasise "no no realy beautiful", meaning that her first coment was not a courtusy(sp) compliment.

Anyway, for me the 928 is the bargain/find of automobile history.....

That is a stunning looking 928. Love the color!

I'm not familiar with Wilhoits. I guess I could google them.

Not to hijack the thread, but could you elaborate on "The auto, when adjusted correctly, has a nice chirp going into 2 and 3 when rpm'd out"? I'm not getting that chirp, and I think I would like to! So whats the correct adjustment?

Ken, I'll get you that info asap, if it's possible to get. The info is in Kevin's brain at the moment, so I have to pry it out first!

Wonder if it has anything to do with her driving.
Don't believe she knows that you don't have to keep the throttle mashed to the floor and keeps it there.

to you Ernest!

I learned how to drive my cars from the best mechanic and driver I know on the planet...my loving hubby, Kevin.

So if I'm a little enthusiastic about mashing the go pedal, it's all his fault!!!

Ok, Ken, here's your answer, as best I can make of it. I hope this makes sense as I'm translating from Kevin's text message abbreviations. If something isn't clear, let me know and I'll get clarification, ok? In fact, I'm pretty sure something is not exactly right, but it's all I can get for now, as he's not answering me anymore.

Kevin used to rebuild transmissions for a living in his dad's shop. He actually built, from scratch, several transmissions in his late teenage years that he sold to racers in the local area. Quite by accident, a few years ago he happened to run into one guy he had sold a trans to back in the 80s. That guy told him, "Man that thing is bullet proof! I've still got it, even though the car I had it in is long gone. It's sitting by my garage waiting for something else to put it in."

The answer:
Adjust the modulator on the trans vacuum servo in throttle pressure cable. Loosen until you get 4th gear at WOT, but don't go too far on the vacuum servo or you will break s**t and the euro trans.

I doubt there is a car everyone likes. You could find people that hate Ferraris. That said, I think a 86.5 928S black 5 speed and sport seats would look good next to my 86 951.
