Question Rear View Cameras ????

Hi All

As I have had the back of my 928 tinted with Limo Tint , which stops 95% of light coming in to stop my twin Nitrous bottles over heating, it also makes the view through the rear view mirror MUCH darker.....think late evening as its getting dark....even in bright sunlight..

Now....I have a nasty feeling that even though I always use my external mirrors, that one day I might get careless and miss a Police car behind me......not that I would ever speed on a public road of course

Sooo.....I have been thinking about fitting a rear view camera....you can get them for around £100 in the Uk with a screen that fits on the interior mirror...and although you have to drill a hole in the back, it might cure my problem of view above....

Anyone ever used one , or know which ones are best ????

Or anyone got opinions of this ???

All the best Brett

I put one in my Isuzu Vehicross. It was an easy, fun install and works great. I got mine on ebay for the price range you mentioned. After a year it still works fine. FWIW.

The Fry's Electronics here had a license plate bracket with a built in camera for $99.

I picked up one on EBay for $25 +shipping. It mounts over the top portion of your license plate. I'm sure the quality isn't superb, but for $25 I thought it was worth checking out. Now I have to figure out how to get it to come on automatically when I put the 5-speed in reverse.

Do you have a video display already? If you do you can wire the camera to the backup lights and switch video inputs manually or maybe by a + trigger?

I was considering adding a backup camera and putting a little display in place of the panel that surrounds the little clock in front of the shifter.

Yes, I already installed the unit below. The head unit has a reverse sensing connection. I'm trying to find out how to wire it to something up front so I don't have to run something all the way from the back. I already have a lot of wiring for the amp and sub and will have to run RCA to the camera itself.

It's about $400 on their site, but I bought in on EBay for $288, shipped to me in 2 days, which included $51 for shipping. I think it was a great deal and it's actually a pretty good unit, longevity not yet known. Look for Eonon on Ebay.

The unit has a 4.3" touchscreen, separate but small GPS unit and antenna, tv tuner (obsolete in 2009), radio tuner, dvd player, built in blue tooth (cool!), has a SD card slot for your divx movies or mp3 files, reverse camera hookup, additional monitor hookup, front usb connection and rear aux connection, good sound. My only disappointment is that it does not have a separate sub out connection like my sony head unit.

As you can see, it's a 1-din unit, but the faceplate is larger. It does install and sit nicely though.

I love that idea, because that clock is obsolete and I have been trying to figure out what to put in it's place ever since I bought my 928

Hi

Thanks for the tips but still got a problem....

I NEED a rear camera that is NOT, a wide angle reversing camera...I want to see a long way back, like my eyes in a normal rear view mirror...it also needs to be roughly an inch round and not square so I don't make it too obvious...

I have contacted one of the UK Ebay sellers and hes trying to get his Chinese supplier to make one with a 40 to 50 degree rear angle....so almost telephoto...and NOT wide angle like all the others...

Unless anyone knows of a telephoto rear camera with around 1 inch diameter and night vision etc ???

All the best Brett
