Just my unprofessional opinion here, but.....

I personally could not justify giving more than $23,000 for the car. If it were me I would find a way to hang on to it and wait on the 928 market to (hopefully??) turn around.

But it is a beautiful car!!

Hi Doc, Your shark is a very nice car indeed. There have been several fairly nicely maintained GTS in the sub 100k mile category sell in the $25-$28k range in the past 18 months. I know only cause I've had my eye on them. While yours has less miles, two of em were '94 models, for what thats worth. Robert Seville in NC has had the Marine Blue '94 GTS for sale for 18 months, stared around $32-33k, currently around $27-28k. When I was considering it prior to Robert buying it, the previous seller emailed me offering it at $25k in 10/06, after starting at $29k. I passed on this very well maintained car only cause the wife didnt like the color combo. I saw this car at SITM this year, still for sale, & its a nice GTS indeed. With gas prices rising as they have this year, that hasn't helped to sports car market. I say get your price below $30k, to get some serious interest & if you want to sell it quickly, get it closer to $25k. And PCA & Autotrader are good suggestions too. Good Luck!

Bigs, my first question is what does Dave Lomas think it is worth ? My guess is that he would know.

Aside from that, you should fix the paint, or subtract that amount from the worth of a pristine car. To get a good price, the car should look like it has never been messed with. Also, being honest about an accident history that is not on a carfax, and cannot be detected will still put off many buyers, and motivate many others into seeking a deal.

If you want to sell, put ads in all the venues previously listed, for the price you would be willing to sell for. Do not lie, but stick to the good points, and be prepared to talk to all callers.

But here's the rub. I sold my 911 a while back, and I got my price. It was the responsible thing to do, but it was paid for, and it wasn't going to cost me much for a while. I didn't really need the money, and it wasn't going to make any real difference in my lifestyle. Nor can it be easily replaced at fair market value. I sold it anyway. What I didn't take into account was how owning the car made me feel, nor did I realize how I would feel after I sold it.

I can tell you this. Knowing you, and your profound relationship to the divine, if you really wanted to sell the car, you would have been inspired to set a price, and the car would have gone to a new owner already. Your mind would have been set on putting the car into the right hands, and the money would have been a secondary issue to you. In fact, you haven't been intent on selling to the right owner, because you already know who the rightful owner is.

So, now to pricing. I can't see listing at less than 26, but I can't see breaking 30 either. Selling to a dealer would yield 24, and expect him to detail the snot out of it and list it for 6-8 more, really 32. Selling below 25, except to a dealer is really gift pricing. If you are truly interested in selling, put the ads out now, for 29. I expect it will sell for over 27 in between 2 and three months.

If you want a better opinion and more accurate advice, go over to Pelican Parts, and get ahold of LoMiler. In spite of what many think, he is a sharp cookie, and has bought and sold more 928s than most, and he will have valuable insight to give someone who has never been an adversary.

Selling a car like yours is like putting down a dog. You will know when the time is right. There will be a brief flurry of car sales in the Fall. If you determine that you really want to sell the car, get the ads out by mid August.

In my humble opinion, I would like to see you keep the car. You earned it, you deserve it, and it suits you. It gives you satisfaction, and something to think about that is totally removed from the rest of your life. It is not so much a vice as a recognition of your human essence. Sell it later, like when it starts getting covered with gardening supplies.

I had the same conversation with Randy C today as I detailed his GTS and the subject of price was a great concern. Not having seen Big's car in person, but the fact that Lomas is the one who's taken care of it means a lot to this community. That is a bonus for Bigs. As I would hope that the Roger Tyson name is to this one.

For Randy's '93 I took the Lowmiler approach and paid extreme attention to the details. These are the things that Todd and Wilhoit (sp) do and that is why they get the $$ they are getting for the cars they sell. Which is exactly what I was telling Randy today. It's the small stuff, and the a lot of small stuff adds up to larger $$ on these cars. Today we ( I say we, because Randy and Roger walked around giving me **** as I sweated) cleaned the under carriage. Left the cosmoline but got rid of some of the 15 years of road grime you would expect to find. Not that it has any leaks or crap that needed covering up, but because it needed a cleaning. Things that would not normal be cleaned on a car, got cleaned because I felt it would help in the selling of the car. Detailed pictures were taken also, which is key to those that are going to spend $$ for a well kept GTS.

I know that a car that has had the attention to the small details will fetch a larger amount because it is closer to stock, concours, than one that is a daily driver with gunk everywhere and what some would call "lack of care" is obvious. To me, a dirty engine is a sign of a person who just wanted to drive it as opposed to one who wants to keep his car in tip top shape.

I'm not as well informed on the GTS cars like most of you but I think the market for the 928's are soft right now. I think it would sell reasonably well in the 25k range or slightly lower. I think if you wait a while especially if the housing market turns around or gas prices go lower you'll have a better change of getting more for the car. In a nut shell hold it for a while longer if you can if it's gotta go now sell it quick for a little less. Jason

OK. I think I'm starting to get a consensus here. If I really want to aggressively sell the car, I'm hearing that somewhere between $25K - $30K is what it's probably gonna take.

When I originally listed it at $36K in the spring of 07, that was the price Dave Lomas suggested at the time. (I think he actually said something like, "The car should sell in the mid-30's. That's a fair price.) Of course, the economy currently isn't the same as it was then.

The baseline for good condition GTS should be $30k. Tack onto that arbitrary premiums for excellent condition and low mileage cars up to $55k.

That is how it should be.

The low end of the price range you are thinking about is if you want to unload the car quick.

The GTS is a niche market, and those that want a great GTS will pay a for a well kept example. I just got done with a '94 that was purchased for $20k. Was the car worth that? Hell yes, and way more so when the little issues were fixed. The '94 could be turned for $28+ now. The only thing holding it back would be the past issues that have been aired, but fixed. If Lowmiler or Wilhoit got the car, it would bring $8k more.

Bigs, the target buyer you want for your car is not a regular poster here. We are all looking for a steal, we know the cars and if we can get bottom $$ for them, bonus for us. When you offered the car to me for a way low price, I wanted to jump, but could not for financial reasons. And I also thought I'd be stealing it from you. From what I know, your car is worth well above the price you offered it to me for, and I think, unless you are just looking to unload it, you should hold out for the right buyer.

The market for 928's is "low" right now, and that is because there are so many vultures out there looking for the deal of the century. Hell, newer 911 owners are now looking at these cars and realizing what a modern work of marvel they are. Your car sold new for close to $90k, if not more, and there were not many produced.

Put it on e-bay to get the exposure, detailed pics, don't sweat if it does not sell there, your phone will ring off the hook with offers and you should not have a problem selling it. Or, you could sell it to me for $25k and see it up for $10k more on the next e-bay sale.

Don't sell you, or the car short.

Yes, I know that. But I can look myself in the mirror much easier if I offer full and total disclosure. You know, "Do unto others..." and all that stuff. I just wouldn't feel good about myself if I thought I was hiding something from a prospective buyer. If I sell it, I don't want someone who buys it in good faith to experience any unpleasant surprises if I can avoid it.

Again, excellent comments. From time to time, I get caught up too much in practicalities and necessities. Life is also meant for fun!

Well, I've made a decision.

I'm not disputing the consensus market value of my car. I trust the collective wisdom of the Renny - and the Pelican.

But if the market simply won't support a minimum of $32K for the car...

I'm gonna keep my baby and forget about selling her! She's currently 100% paid off, so she's virtually free fun at this point!
