Default Rattle in door 82 5 spd

Hi everyone, with the window up, (drivers side), there is a loud rattle coming from inside door. With window down its quiet. I took the cover off and discovered that the round "tube" that guides the glass up & down at the bottom is loose and has play side to side, after feeling around down there it feels that there WAS some rubber that used to hold it in place, now just little pieces... Any ideas what the best fix?
Thanks...Rick

There is an insert part #928 537 285 02 that belongs there. I belive you can get it from any of the big three. Hope this helps.

The bottom of the tube sits on a pin in the door base, with the rubber to isolate it from the metal. To replace the rubber, you will need to unbolt the top of the tube, and follow the WSM to re-align it correctly . This is also a good time to check the nylon glass guides for wear, as this leads to rattling of the glass when partway down.

No. The wsm says to lock the glass in closed position with a wedge (rubber probably best). As you are only disturbing the guide tube, not the actual raise/lower mechanism, the glass will tend to topple over , but not fall as such. Toppling is not desirable either, as it may then disconnect from the raise/lower arm. I suspect a rubber door wedge will do the trick here. Check the state of the nylon roller on the raise/lower arm WYAIT - sometimes they just break up and drop the glass, so check for any signs of cracking. With the nylon pieces glass->tube, I bought what I thought was a left and a right , which is what the moulded part numbers said they were (3rd group 259 and 260), but they were both RIGHTS!!!!
Do you have WSM?

Okay, as best i remember it....get the vertical tube in place, bolts fitted finger tight (ie not locking tube top in place), roll glass up and ensure it goes into top channel properly. This may need two adjustments - the the tube top location for glass correct front->rear of door, and the bolts holding nylon to glass are in slots to adjust the glass in/out in the window frame, ie sideways in the door. Nip all the bolts and lower/raise the glass a few times to ensure its meets channel reliably, adjust bolts as needed. Get a soft copy set of WSM via Jim Moorhouse. The other option if you have a rattle caused by worn nylons is to run a cable tie around the tube and nylon, just tight enough to take out slack, but not so tight as to load window motor.
