Default What ever happened to the BlackBird setup?

I did a search and nothing really turned up any answers, it just disappeared from DR's website. I really figured it would turn out to be a great new performance product and everyone would eventually have one. It seems like the demand for a performance intake with proven gains is very high. I wonder if you could install a ricer cold air intake on a 928 and get any gains? It would basically be half of a blackbird setup.....

Didn't you hear? Dave and Jeanie were served a cease and desist order from Lockheed Martin for infringing upon the name blackbird. In haste, they changed the name to negro bird and are now being picketed by Al Sharpton. They were scheduled to be on Nancy Grace last week but were bumped when the little girl went missing in Orlando.

Just kidding. I don't have any idea what happened.

That's funny. Nancy Grace... that would've been good press.

I'd really like to know what happened, there were a couple other threads awhile back asking the same question and they just got wiped off into the abyss with no answers.............

Technically the facotry setup is already a "cold air" system.

Why not call / E-mail Dave Roberts and ASK ?? All else is just speculation or hearsay. The link is at the top of the page He spends a lot of money just to be there...

Alright I took Jim's suggestion and gave them a call, apparently the manufacturer of some of the parts is having trouble fulfilling the high volume of orders so they are waiting on them to catch up and there is not a definitive date on when they will be available.

Interesting that the 996/997 crowd are upgrading their OE intake pipes to a newer, aftermarket set up that resembles the BlackBird set up of 928 Specialists. These newer set ups are being advertised as flowing more air and increasing HP/TQ by letting in more air more smoothly into the engine intake. Of course the air filters are not in the same places but the idea with the two pipes merged smoothly into one opening is the same.

Just an observation,
Constantine

Where could one possibly obtain these two merging pipes in the right size diameter to fit over say a 928 MAF?
