Cool

Met Pattycakes the Wunder Weissach in San Diego and though I thought the power steering was gone -Man was she tight- and once under way I figured out the best seat adjustment, folded socks for a left knee/door panel rest everything was great. Of course, when the mystery greenhouse syndrom kicked in I did have to play with the windows/sunroof. Otherwise a 20 something hour straight run to Midland Texazz.
A couple years later I flew up to Jackson Hole, WY to pick up the 81' Great White aka "Snowy" loaded it to the MAX with spare parts including the 7 book WSM all maint records, spare windshield, transmission cradle, and untold boxes with spare everything from seals/gaskets, bolts, reserviors, hoses, A arms, lights, ad nauseam. Then did a 19 hour run back to the childhood home of George "I rode the short bus" Bush, Midland, Texazz. The trip entaled traveling thru Mountains with snow and ice to 90 degree West Texas heat. My only problem was hitting the worst fog in 20 years between Amarillo and Lamesa -couldn't see the front of the hood and for dammmm sure no one could see Snowy until it was to late. Than God for delineator poles.
All in all both runs were great, and it's true .... sHARKs run better, sound smoother/more quiet, and hunker down in the 80mph + zone. The mpg meter read near 30 when drafting anything the size of a speeding Expedition or bigger. Oddly, for a 6'2" 230lb 'er I felt pretty good -rested?- after both runs. Not Cadillac/Lincoln good but, close enough.
Drive it.
If you have a Valentine ... drive it like you stole it.
FWIW
My sHARKs enjoyed the cooler weather, and rain. Of course that may be due the Scwabish origins of these critters.

If the engine starts, drive it! Nothing like a long road trip to make you appreciate these cars!

Adventure. That's what it is all about. Watch others do it, or do it yourself. Dream or live. If you don't live now, when DO you plan to begin?

When I purchased the 81, my son and I flew to Minnesota to pick it up. Those 3 days we spent driving back to Oregon were priceless.
He still talks about it... and the camero we tangled with in Montana

When I sold my 90 GT the new owner drove it straight through from Oklahoma City to New Hampshire. Took him almost 12 hours. I know because he called to say he had made it, loved the drive, didn't even stop to sleep despite plans and reservations, AND couldn't talk because the weather was beautiful and he was going driving! That's what a 928 is all about.

looks like the heat shield is in there around the battery box. Don't understand the high heat back there tho.
Anyway, I'm convinced. I will drive it.
Now, where is that list of contacts so I can chart my course with "friendlies" along the way? I do have the full 928 OC "den mother" list, so I can use that to figure out who is along the trail, but is there another list? I'm leaving first week of Sept.
