Question Throttle linkage popped off

So I'm driving along when the gas pedal drops to the floor. In a panic, I grab the key and turn off the ignition when I realize that the throttle wasn't stuck all the way down, but instead the linkage broke.

It turns out that the ball on the end of the rod that connects to the throttle body had popped off.

I put the rod back in place but I don't see anything that would cause it to not pop off again. My question is, what holds this rod in place?

Thanks,

John, I have had two of those pull rods. One had holes at the top and bottom of the cups that a pin was supposed to slide through. The other did not. Neither had the pin. Your problem has been brought up here before and I never heard a definitive answer of whether the pin was supposed to be there or not. Most people (maybe all?) have no pin, but it may just be they are lost over time, or maybe they were never installed. They aren't shown in the PET.

Without the pin, you can take a pair of pliers or flathead screwdriver and pinch the circlip inside the cup that snaps over the ball when the cup and ball are mated. That will at least give you a tighter connection.

Matt
