Does it matter?

I guess I am biased with respect to the early cars.
The best bang for the buck is the Y pipe and the cat back system designed by Mark Anderson.
Makes the car sound awesome and the power increase is a real seat of the pants increase.
Yes I sell both before you ask 8>)

Default WELL X-PIPE IS ON

Anyhow the job for JESSES exhaust work in san diego was aout 2.5h.He welded the airpump tubes like fact on the x-pipe,clamps the front cats and welded the rear cats to pipe with a part of the new pipe that came extra.Anyhow with fact resonator car grumbles a little more than stock only if you stepped on them.I did not want to have any airpump hose and belt clipped off so i opted to have the fact look. Now the fun part is i think i will dismantled the cats to find out how much plat is in those cats.Anyone guess where is it in the cats?the ceramic or the wooly looking wraps i see surrounded the ceramics?if its the wooly and pure plat its looks like a few ounces......

The "new pipe that came extra" was in fact the straight pipes to replace the cats just in case you decided you wanted a bit more noise. It was designed modular so you could switch it out at will.

We get between $150 and $180 for a used set of S4 cats from local recyclers...if they are not destroyed. The platinum and palladium are coatings on the ceramic substrate.

Granted, I have done it a few times but if it took me more than an hour to do the same job I would be wasting time.

There is not much platinum in a cat- especially not a few ounces at $2000/ounce. The platinum is tantamount to being molecularly vaporized onto the ceramic. Send it to a reputable refiner like Hoover&Strong ( Hooverandstrong.com i believe) if you are trying to get some return.

All Best,

Allen
