Default Normal cold oil pressure reading

Real quick question, my S4 has always jumps to 4bar with a cold motor. It will rise up to 5 with a slight blip of the throttle. Is his normal or should it jump up to 5 right away when cold? Running Mobile 1 15-50.
thanks

it should go up to 5 bar when things are cold, you might have a weak thermo spring or the oil may have suffered viscosity breakdown, or the sender could be going bad.
A couple of things you can do first warm up the engine take out dipstick and drip the oil onto a black piece of cardboard go out in the sun and look at the oil, your looking for small metallic particles, if you see any then you may have the beginnings of a rod bearing going bad. Other things that can cause loss of oil pressure are the cam galley rubber plugs falling out, a new part is a simple stepped pin thats held in the cam journal by the cam cap.
If you find metallic particles remove the oil filter and cut it open and see if you can find any bigger pieces. Keep us posted on what you find

Stan is there a trouble shooting procedure (assuming fresh oil in system) or would it be best to just change the thermo spring first and if that doesn't result in improvement, go on to changing the sender. Or should one just change both at once?

the reason for my post in virtually every 928 that i have changed the oil on the gauge goes to 5 bar when it is started, after the engine is warm most should settle at 1.5 to 2.5. I think that Doug`s write up gives more info and is a good benchmark to go on.. Charlie as far as a trouble shooting guide there might be more info in the WSM , but generally speaking when the pressure gets low change the oil and filter, after looking for the metallic particles, ( assuming theres no particles) if no change then change the thermo springs, and then the sender
