Default Help Install Shifter

I purchased this used auto shifter from a Rennlister several months ago for my '88S4 and can't figure how to install it. It would be perfect with my linen interior and wooden Momo steering wheel. What am I missing? Thanks.

Why don't you ask the person you got it from?

ADDED: This may help....

Thanks Keith. I don't think he's around any more.

Kiet,

around the collar of the shifter, you will see some Allen head set screws. The number changed depending on the model. Some have 3, other only one.

Remove everything from your original set up. You should end up with a hollow shifter rod. Slip the rubber boot on it, if that is what you intend to use.

Slip the shifter in place and then slip the rod through the hole and into the shifter rod. The magnet will stick at the bottom of the shifter rod.

Move the shifter **** up or down, until you only have a small amount of the button showing, but enough to unlock the shifter when depressed.

Once you are satisfied with the position, lock the set screw and pull the boot up to cover it.

That should be it.

Thanks Paul. With your instructions and Keith's PET, it makes much more sense now.

I can't tell where in the process you are stuck. I do remember that the location of the shifter was very critical in getting the rod to drop all the way down.
