Default Fuel Tank Imploding

As you know, the car has been running a dry sump for about 2 weeks. Have not had any time to play around with the crank case and vacuum hoses, thus I left it alone.

The car seems to run ok, but there is something wrong with the fuel tank breathing as it implodes and the engine dies after spirited driving. When I release the fuel cap I can hear hissing as air enters the tank.

Do you think it is possible that I am sucking too much air out of the tank via the charcoal canister, which vents into the intake, which in turn is being robbed of air via the dry sump installation. Or am I missing something?

Any pointers would be gladly appreciated!

Thanks in advance,

Alex

I had the same problem when my gas tank vent system was clogged.

Yep... Check your vent lines. They may be kinked or collapsed.

The "vent " is only supposed to be able to inhale and not exhale ....not exactly a vent

jim, i thought there was the provision for fumes to vent via the charcoal canister back into the intake? looking at porkens thread a few lines down from here i keep reading it that way. as for alexs problem - you would imagine the drysump install and this new problem are related as the tank has only just started doing this, but maybe not?

Semantics semantics.

OK. So it's a Gas Tank Snorkel to let it breathe.

Alex, if you have copied the PACE system, then remember it was designed for an oil catch tank system rather than the stock inlet & breather - so either replicate that or redesign with one-way valves (which is the way I will go). However sounds more like a blocked breather hose somewher.

The system "borrowed" from PACE with regards to pan design and the actual two-stage scavenge pump. The rest of it is ours... I am running a catch tank attached to the oil tank, but thankfully, that stays empty for now. I think I will eliminate all crank ventilation hoses and will leave just the vacuum lines running into the intake. That way I think I will achieve better ring sealing... The GT engine is a test mule - anything goes

I have a feeling that I might have squashed the breather hose when I dropped the rear subframe to install the new GTS gearbox... Will have to look into it when I get the car back from Promax...
