Default brake pad wear sensors

can anyone help me out? i'm in the garage changing brake pads and installing wear sensors, the PO must have deemed them unnecessary. I see where they go in the pads, but where does the other side of the wire hook up for the front pads? thanks.

I just changed front pads, and the pad sensors were very brittle. They crumbled a little on the sides while removing. After reinstalling on new pads my brake pad warning lights up. I realised I had forgotten to plug in the connector on first start up so I turned off the car and reconnected everything. Unfortunately the warning persists. I am guessing I FUBARd the sensor while trying to remove from the old pads. Do I need to disconnect the battery to reset the warning or with the sensor reattached should this resolve the central warning light and brake pad warning in the dash?

I am guessing that new pad sensors are in order now.

+1 to 928ABD............

My Brake Pad warning light has been on before and after I changed the brake pads.

I notices the driver side sensor was "jumped" at the plug by the master cylinder so I took the little jumper wire off and plugged the sensor back in, with the car off..............same issue as 928ABD above, the warning light still persists.

Same question; do I need to disconnect the Battery to reset the system? I would think not, but.............

You don't need to reset the system by disconecting the battery.... switching ignition off and on again is enough... at least on my 87.

Talking I Love this friggin place

Can I just say how happy I am for the help I get here. I was in my garage last night with the WSM pages for the pad replacement, but no word of where the pad sensors came from. My computer at home is all jacked up, so I used my cell phone to ask for help. By the time I had put the brake quiet on my pads the answer was waiting for me. I love you Rennlist.

As fas as I know it works like this: all sensors are wired as a chain, all linked together end to end. The two leads finally end up either on the central warning unit or at the digital dash (1989->). Any break in the circuit, of contact to ground triggers the system to go off.
regards,
Theo

BTW: any secret tricks to install the sensors on new pads? I replaced my pads a few weeks back, and they where a PITA to get into the pads without crushing the sensors.

I just had my brake pad warning light come on today so I went ahead and ordered new sensors and clips all around and I already have some Axxis metal master pads laying around.

The new sensors and clips are dirt cheap. Front sensors were 8.98 each and rear sensors were 2.08 each clips are 14.57 for a set of 4.

I say money well spent to save you the aggravation of dealing with crumbling crusty old sensors.

I don't plan on using my sensors. I'm just going to crimp the 2 wires together. The PO already jacked the system:-(
