One problem resolved, another pops up!
Some days I feel like there must be a law of conservation of 928 maladies.
Last week my instrument lights went out. It's interesting driving around at night without being able to see any of the gauges, especially the speedometer. Turned out to be the rheostat - it works great until you turn it up to full bright, then everything goes black. I'm going to try cleaning it, worst case buy a new one, maybe just live with it for now.
So I was feeling pretty pleased with myself - until I noticed little puddles of red here and there. Looks like a significant leak somewhere in the steering plumbing. My guess is the lines between the pump and reservoir, but I haven't had a chance to poke around yet.
Crap.

May be something simple, like just needing to snug up the line off the reservoir, as it was in my case.
But yeah, there's usually something, something trifling.

Hi Bill, If you should find that your leak is the pressure line to the steering rack, shoot me a PM. I have a good used one, and also A brand new one still in the packaging for an S-4. I also have a brand new reservoir if that's the problem.

Thanks Jack - I'll keep that in mind.
If it's not something simple it might be worth replacing both lines and the reservoir while I've got things apart.

Every repair thread could have this title!
Change out your dimmer control... it's cheap, it takes about 30 seconds to do, and you will never lose your instrument lights when you want them.

Is the pressure line a two piece line? I have a leak in the rubber section of line (seepage at the flare connection to the metal section) that connects to the metal line which, in turn, goes in front of the radiator. Anybody have a extra of that line?

I think you are right. As far as I can tell it is impossible to have everything working at the same time. Even if you exclude certain long term project issues, there is always something new that pops up as soon as you fix something else.
Right now my car is off the road waiting for a new throttle cable. I know that as soon as I fix it something else will happen, I'm just praying its something that I can fix whilst I'm touring Italy later this month.

So the worst of the steering leaks is fixed - and a new problem appears.
My wife took the car today. When she got home she complained that the a/c wasn't working.
A quick look found this broken belt, that used to be on these pulleys. I'm assuming a seized a/c compressor. Is that the only thing this belt drives? If so, I assume the car can at least be driven?
