Default Helmet Clearance

Any suggestions on how to fit into a 93 GTS with my helmet? I tracked my car a few years ago, but my Recaro had to be fixed to the floor with no fore/aft movement. Even as is, there were clearance issues. Any ideas? The seats now in my 944 Turbo. No issues there.
thanx

Good luck w/ that...the sunroof takes up WAY to much head room for most helmet use. You can lay your seat back so that you barely touch the wheel but your knees will be bent and you will be very close to the pedals. You could find another seat to swap in that has a thinner bottom cushion.

You could maybe if you talked real nice to Paul Champagne get him to custom make a drivers seat with a lower thinner seat bottom for you... It would be based on a stock seat so you would even be able to still raise it up if you or someone else needed too... Just a thought. Paul is making the 12 way power seats available as full on sport seats now... His work is AMAZING and the creativity never ceases to amaze me!

Good luck, and know that you are not alone in this problem (though I am only 5' 10" so I don't have it, but I have many 6'+ friends who barely fit in 928's even w/o helmets)...

I put a momo wheel with quik disconnect that gave me an extended 2" and now fit fine with the seat all the way back and no more reaching for the wheel.

Have you looked into a fixed back racing seat for track days?

I would think modifying a stock seat would be very spendy, and I'm not sure you'd gain as much headroom as if you went aftermarket, especially if you're trying to retain the motorized adjustment.

I got a lot of additional headroom when I installed a Sparco Sprint fixed back seat. In addition to getting additional head room, I am able to sit much more upright in the car. It much more comfortable, no more reaching.

I also installed a Momo steering wheel that has a large dish to get the wheel as close to me as I could. I'm considering installing a spacer to get it even closer as someone mentioned previously.

And the Sparco seat mounts to sliders so you have fore/aft adjustment. The increase in the height of the seat is minimal.

And I believe the new fixed back seats are side mount, which would give you the most room, but would not allow for fore/aft adjustment I don't believe.

Do you have to have the fore/aft adjustment? I never adjust my Sparco now, I could easily mount it in its current position and never move it - for track days that is.
