Default Simple Mirror Repair?

Hey guys. Trying to do a little mirror R&R, I have read some other threads and also some info from the GN site.

But just needing a little help.

My mirror is loose from the base, so I have it removed (wires still attached) hoping I can tighten the bolt back up.

So is the proper procedure to grab the lip of the hollow bolt and push down while turning to the right? What part actually threads? Having a little trouble, hoping persistence will be the key here.......

Anybody been there and done that?

I think you can pop out the mirror part to get to the upper part of that, but yes, that hollow piece is threaded into the top part of the frame. If it's loose, you should be able to tighten it up an be good-to-go.

Hey Mike..............that is my plan, although I have been pushing hard and turning and still can not get it to catch. But I am guessing that time and muscle will make it right? I do not have to remove the mirror (glass) right?

I thought this would be a simple one, push and turn..........so far no go.

Put some masking tape around the door. I tried doing this without the masking tape and my wedding ring made some scratches on the paint while I was struggling to fix it.

SJ,

Here's what the back of the mirror glass looks like:

Notice the location of the spring 3 spring clips holding it onto the pivoting mechanism.

If you get a hook or pick behind the mirror and the plastic frame it's glued to, you can pop it forward, which will enable to you access the hex bolts that hold the mechanism to the housing, and access to the top of that hollow bolt.

Thanks Mike for the pic, I see the 3 springs that retain the glass to the base, but hard to tell from the picture where the hollow bolt comes into the mirror, from the picture it does not look like you can access the top of the bolt, am I missing something?

To get the hollow bolt back on, you still have to push from the bottom and turn right?

Thanks guys.

That's right, the top of it has a nut on it. Once you pop the mirror out, you'll have 3 6(?) mm hex head nuts You can see the center one on the left of the pic, the other two are accessed from the round holes on the right of the pic. Once the mechanism is lifted out, you can unplug a wiring harness and then tighten up the nut on the hollow bolt (the black plastic trim ring pops out too, to allow more room).
