Default getting ready for SITM 2009

Man, all I can think is SITM next year. So, while installing new TB, rollers etc I decided to try chrome powder coating one more time. I still need to use automotive clear coat to protect them from oxidation and the elements. I decided not to go with clear powder coating as it will dull the "chrome" effect.

Gio--

Looks pretty! There are bearings inside that throttle relay/bellcrank. They are probably OK if the seals didn't bake during the curing process for the PC. The ball studs for the cable ends will likely need to be de-painted too, since they may be bigger than the holes in the connectors will allow.

For those considering this, I haven't tried to disassemble the throttle relay. Looks like the snap ring on the end comes off, and that should allow the relay arms to slide off. A little masking could protect the shaft, and the bearings likely press out. Plug the tube then and mask the ball studs, and you'll save yourself some later cleanup. IIRC Tony in LV had his throttle relay replated (yellow zinc) rather than painted, so his website may have some info on disassembly and masking.

As Bob said, i had mine plated in Yellow Zinc. I just took the whole assembley apart and gave it to them. They dip it in some solutions...probably not very nice ones, and it came out fine. No adverse problems to date. Its a nice way to sharpen up an engine bay by getting all the little nuts and bolts..fittings replated.

Looks nice Gio!

I think you beat Andrew to the first SITM 09 thread (unless I missed it)

The torch has been passed!

Gio is now the un-official SITM town-crier/count-down host.

Thanks guys. Unfortunately the clear coat made it dull, looks more like silver than chrome. I am hitting ebay again to look at different other colors.

I've had very good luck with ceramic coating in silver that's then tumbled to a high luster. It comes out looking a lot like chrome and is very durable.
