Default How do you check the vin on a euro spec car?

Would like to find out more info on my 1981 928s euro spec. The car has the factory paint but all the tags were removed? (still has the vin tag but thats it!) it has m28/11 on the block so I know it is a 300hp 4.7 16 valve but..... Would like to find out as much info as I can. Only 71k on the clock but......please help if you can.

the vin starts out

Porsche Cars of North America for all intent and purposes refuses to acknowledge that your Euro car exists in the USA and can not or will not try to run the numbers. If your vin starts out whith 92AO8 your car is a 1980 model. It was in 1981 that VIN Numbers were standardized in the current format (WPO ) . The next number after 8 indicates the market/version 1 being a USA spec. If your odometer/speedometer reads MPH the speedo was swapped when imported and the car is probably TMU ,True Miles Unknown... The M28/11 is GOOD the 300 HP 4.7 for a 5 speed car.

my vin # reads 92A08211** .... The title states the car is an 81 but I guess its more of a 1980.5??? Kind of a bummer about being unable to find out more info on the car!!!!!!!!!! I know its a euro spec cause eveything inside the car is in jibberish/german. Son of a B!

where is your vin number plate on the car ?? If you look under the right front fender in front of the upper a-arm the vin is stamped into a flat spot of the inner fender readable from under the fender.

The vin #plateis located in back of the hood latch under the hood... I found the # under the passenger side fender and they match. I found a tag under the hood and it has a few #'s on it. Any1 know what they mean?

11R,12R,14R,17R,18R,0027,0013,0039,0018,0034

I'm guessing the car is pretty light being an 80 w/a 5 speed 3200# maybe? No power anything inside and it has a vinyl interior so that saves some weight over leather.

Thanks again for the help!

I too wanted one for my car and I felt the same way. What a rip off. Should have been 20-30 bucks not over 100

here are a few pics. I paid 1400 for the car a little over 2 weeks ago. I have about 1000 in parts on the way. The car sat for 12 years so I am changing all the Fluids, TB, Water pump, Engine harness...... Just did the brake fluid so I painted the calipers now need to paint the rears.

At what year the 928 passed from miles to kilometers? (For Europe)
Mine is 1979, with the original german console, and it's all in miles.
