Default Blue smoke under load

My 89' GT is smoking badly under full load.
Just revving the engine does not create a smoke, but under acceleration there is blue cloud of it. There seems to be no heavy oil consuption. One cilinder has a worse compression though. What I dont get is that the smoke cloud is not appearing on every acceleration. On a track it does not smoke that much. What could be the most likely couse of this?

My suggestion is oil pooling in the pipe under the inlet during normal use and then getting sucked into the motor when you give gas. You can usually see a small pool when you take out the MAF.
Also over high oil fill levels can contribute to this.

what does the compression check reveal also what do the spark plugs look like? Is there oil pooling in the intake? It could be a broke ring in an oily cylinder, or exccesive oil blow by getting past the oil vapor line on the cam cover

If the smoke is under the hood, you probably have a hole in one of the breather lines that goes under the intake. The hose that runs from front of the passenger cam cover under the intake to the base of the oil filler gets mushy and develops holes with age and will spew oil/oil vapor around the water bridge on the side. You might be able to see oil collecting down there and even the hole in the hose if you peer down there with a flashlight. Removing the fuel rail cover on that side improves line of sight to the oil filler base. The rear breather hose on the same side goes down into the side of the rubber boot between the MAF and throttle. You should be able to see it well enough if you remove the air filter housing. Finally, there is a breather line running from the very top of the oil filler, driver side, down and under the intake, T-d with a hose from the gas vapor recovery system, to the front of the throttle. Any of these could have a hole in them and spew oil/oil vapor.

Martins--

Please clatify whether the blue smoke is from the engine bay, or is it coming from the exhaust?

Yes - its exhaust. Thanks everyone - I will start by checking the intake as it appears that it could be the only reason why its not smoking all the time.
