lots of cars, tough to find a clean lap, 1:39.3. on the front row, next to the blown s2000. now the bad news, comp coupe viper and 500hp wingo camaro behind me, and vet and panos behind them.

RESULTS
100 RACE DAYS ON THE HOLBERT CAR!!
I still cant believe how many beatings this car has taken! Its running great, no leaks, no smoke, still near 300rwhp, taken to redline on all shifts, and it just ran 2 of its fastest times this weekend! (1:38.7 - 1:38.8 qual /race).
Race 1: after qualifying 2nd, i held the 550hp camaro and the mighty competition coupe viper until turn 5, then they ran by. The vet , Panos and the mazda got by in traffic, and had to battle with that little ripper for 3 laps and finally got by him and took the entre race to run through traffic, catch a break to get on the bumper of the vet, but its 395rwhp was just too much for the Holbert car and had to settle for 4th. The Panos busted a wheel hub and was out. while the rx7 and turbo NSX with 550hp finished 5-6th. Rylan in the Blown S2000 won the race with a time of 1:37.5.
RACE 2 Sunday: After a fantastic qual session, i was gridded 4th, right next to the NSX wit the vet and RX7 behind . The start was the closest ive been in . we were 3 wide into turn 2, as the big hp NSX blew by out of the traffic jam.
I tailed the NSX for a lap or so, and he broke early for turn 5, just as Rylan in the leader S2000 exploded with a wheel/A-ARM failure, and i got him on the inside and just tried to keep all my laps consistant. (That NSX is FAST. Its faster than Andersons car with a top driver, being 480rwhp and 2600lbs with driver running 1:31s on DOTs in a time trial over the summer with Kip at the wheel)
I was a little faster this weekend due to really using ALL of the holbert engine as i have lately. (always redline shifts). I got some separation from the Vet and started chasing the Competition Couple Viper. He early slowed for turn 2 and got by him on the outside. I led him for about 3 laps and then he started gathering up time on the straights. eventually, down the main straight, he got by. Later, the vet finally figured out how to match my good areas of the track and had his way with me up to turn 6 . I stayed near, but there was no way i was going to catch him again unless I had a big traffic break. the Vet ended up 1 second faster, his best. Randy in his mightly camaro posted his first win in a while since his car was destroyed last year, and his Trimec transimission blew at T-hill.
Rob was second , i was 3rd in class.
The Video turned out great. I put one of the Go Pro cameras on rob's vet, but he coudlnt turn it on before the race.
I need the stroker!!!!! I think i might be able to be talked into putting it in before next months thunderhill!

Great job Mark. Sorry I could'nt make it down to watch, to many last minute things to do. And all this on those dumpster tires. Just think stroker motor and a GREAT set of tires.

Thanks! Richard made it up on Saturday, and Iceman (Brian) came out with his BEAUTIFUL new M3!
Thanks for coming out guys. Good to have the support.
Now, the question is, can the new engine get installed, broken in (500miles) and dynoed before July 27th and the next race at Thunderhill?
very temped!

MK held the torch for track sharks yet again.....watching the start of the 2nd race 3 wide in turn 2 was CRAZY.....NSX on one side and the vette on the other...that was sketchy!!!! Cool but sketchy.....MK ran as high as 2nd in class once the S2000 blew up....and held the Comp coupe Viper off for a few laps....but that 550+ HP Viper just had too much on the straights...... I did think he was going to hold off the vette...but as always they had a close hard fought battle, this time going to the vette (who is a great guy BTW).... Bummer Scott didn't make it with his clutch problems....
I talked to the guy who owned the twin turbo NSX.....475whp at only 7 psi....2400lbs wet.... 1:31's on DOT's at Laguna, 1:52's at Thunderhill.....with the top driver this NSX would give Anderson a serious challenge..... However that NSX had to be well over $150k to build...the full carbon fiber dash alone probably was $20k....

Thanks for the great video Mark. It looked like Rob got by you in five due to your late downshift. But what do I know?
Really enjoyed the nerves of steel pass when the S2000 went off in five. Did he think a yellow was going to protect him?
Out breaking the Viper for a pass must have put a smile on your face.
That engine still sounds so strong. Almost a shame to yank it.

Congratulatiuoins Mark!
What is truly amazing to me is the Viper Comp Coupe is very $$$$ and new and here is a 20+ year old mostly stockish 928 giving it fits. Only reason the Viper could stay ahead was the extra HP and that only helped it on the straights. Excellent driving by Mark and gutsy.
Hope your engine swap goes well and without a hitch. Can't wait to see you go at it with more HP/TQ.

Actually it was due to a narrow , protective entry at 5, and the down shift was a last ditch effort to get a little more exit power. Rob, who was right on line, had a better run and it was in the cards for him to motor on by. after all we used to be .01 seconds apart, now, he is a full second faster. that car is pretty darn nice and 395rwhp is pretty nice too, so good for him.
That pass on the Viper did put a BIG smile on my face! And the NSX pass was a little nerve racking, as i wondered the rest of the race whether there was a caution that i missed . Turns out, there was never a caution for Rylan as he drove pretty far off into the beach!
