A properly adjusted handbrake should fully engage in three clicks. That should have the handle well out of the way.

Hmm... The handbrake isn't working... Just for a test, I pull it all the way back, without much effort, and put the car on Neutral... And it was moving.
So, or it's totally not working, or it's horribly too loose.

Well - its a problem that it doesn't work but it also should not need (or be able) to go that high - parallel to the seat bottom is where it should be adjusted to for normal operation. There is some adjustment under the panel behind the console that has the handbrake (has the front seatbelt mount below it too) - There are just a few screws holding the trim cover on - feel around in the carpet (I believe 2 on the sides and two on the top. You may need to check the other end of the cable if its that loose - maybe something broke? or became detached...

Definitely too high.
You may also want to adjust your carpeting so it sits in front of the gas pedal instead of being bent around it. That could potentially get in your way when doing any emergency braking/gas

Put in a 927 part number handbrake. Then make the passenger deal with it.

You have three places to adjust the E-brake handle. At the back end of the handle under the carpet. At the cable junction under the car and at the backing plates on the rear wheels. If you are not able to get a good hold at three clicks, you will need to replace the E-brake shoes.

I'll go double check that dumb plate.
Having a hard plastic plate not secured by any screws or brackets that can impinge on throttle pedal movement wasn't Hans and Franz's better design ideas. What schnapps was they drinking that day.
At least they didn't put any cosmetic/scuff device anywhere near the brake pedal.

The Scuff plate is the grooved plastic thingie to the right of the throttle pedal.

Sorry about the hijack.
So how many have caught their cuffed pant leg on the handbrake lever?
