Default Pod Dimmer switch....

Hello to everyone on this great Saturday! Now that I've got the pleasantries out of the way...I've removed the pod to repair the cracks and trace all sorts of electrical shortcuts the PO had made. I found the dimmer reostat tucked way up into the harness. It is totally fubar! Was wonder if anyone had a good used one lying around that they would part with. Otherwise I guess I'll have to source a new one. Car it is for is a "83" 928S.
Refurbing the Pod is taking longer than I planned....keep running in to watch the running of the 24hrs of Lemans.........
Thanks in advance for looking in your parts boxes or garages

most were junk from the get go- if you dont worry about trying to adjust the dash lights(wich are way to dim anyway) just hook the two wires together.

Default Thank for the tip!

Well maybe I'll buy one from Rodger...or if what I've read the pod lights were never very bright anyway, I'll try the tip you suggested. Just a question though, if wired together then might this lead to a drain on the battery? Or am I becoming another PO who's doing another shortcut to the vehicle that already has enough wiring shortcuts done...lol Oh well something for me to think about! thanks again!

No it will not drain the battery unless you leave your lights on. The rheostat is a substandard piece of **** fresh out of the box. In most cases, even when turned all the way up, the lights are still not as bright as they are if you jumper the two wires that go into it.

I know Rog has a couple of them around. I've got a few used ones in a box over at his place in case he doesn't know where I put them.

Default Thanks!

Thanks again Sean,
I'll check with Rodger once I get the dash and pod cracks refurbed this week. Once again the Rennlist is a BIG help!!

Default Thank Mike,

That info is what I needed to know. Now all I have to do is decide which way I want to go with this.

Collective experience is what gives these boards their value.

I actually measured the voltage on the rheostat before opting to toss it. The voltage at the incoming wire, engine off, key off, parking lights on, was about 12.3 or 12.4. Just slightly less then at the battery terminals which is what I would expect. Plug the rheostat in and measure the voltage on the outgoing post, engine off, key, parking lights on, and switch turned to maximum brightness and I got about 11.5. That's a big difference. I just took a 2 inch piece of wire and crimped a spade terminal on each end and plugged the factory wires into that. If you do that, just make sure they're insulated so they don't touch anything and ground out.

Default Great....

Thanks for that bit of info....I plan on heat shrink tubing on all the rewired connections I come upon so to prevent any shorts or wiring working loose.
