Cheap PS return hose
Noticed a leak of PS on garage floor which has got a bit worse recently. I'm not certain of source but it's dripping onto alternator cooling hose so either from connections at base of reservoir or the rubber/metal connection of return hose (that feels very damp and oily).
As first attempt to fix I'm replacing the revervoir/pump supply hose, return hose rubber section and the reservoir itself so that I have a nice new filter after flush.
I used the trick of dremelling off the metal clamp holding the return hose rubber to the metal end of cooling tube. Drained rad and removed rad bottom hose to give me a little more room for the 'surgery' which went very well. Right through clamp but no danger of damage to metal pipe.
Went to local hydraulic hose depot (Pirtek) today who supplied the short rubber length for $3.50. At the same time I asked for a longer length of cheap plastic hose with same internal diameter so that I could flush the system by connecting this directly to the metal section of return hose. I thought this would be better than trying to find a hose length that would fit the rubber section. Haven't tried it yet but should be convenient - 3m length was $9.50.
Pics show the old (with cut clamp) and new rubber sections, and the coil of PVC hose for flushing.
